Different spring lengths
17 November, 2010, 15:32
Afternoon everybody
I've just brought a new systema 1J spring for my CA M4 as the one in there was firing ~350fps and only came down to 325-330 if i dialed the hop all the way up, which isn't gonna be a solution in the long run.
The new spring arrived today but it's a little over an inch longer than the spring i took out....
Zero-one told me it would fit fine and its going in a normal old V2 gearbox just it is making in DAMN difficult to get it in there and then get the other side of the casing on without knocking something out of allignment.
Any tips?
Also, have i got everything in the right place to start with?
Cheers!

Re: Different spring lengths
All looks good to me, just stick a small screwdriver in the end of spring guide, holding down the cylinder, also trying not to knock things, then give it a good push and it should go in, i tend to do work on gearboxes on a towel on the floor so i can use my feet aswell lol!

Re: Different spring lengths
The CA ones are short, that's why a lot of their weapons have a "ping" sound when they shoot!
What FPS you need, as you say the old spring was around 350 anyway? What is the new spring?
Just as a pointer, that gearbox needs some attention. The runners on the gearbox for the piston are bone dry! Bit of grease there, touch on each end of the gear axles and some silicone on the piston head rubber too, and all should be good

Re: Different spring lengths
The pictures show it pretty much how it looked when i opened it up, its the first time i've been inside the gearbox since i brought it. I've now greased and lubed it in all the appropriate places and finally managed to get it back together after JOE90's tips.
I have noticed the noise is a lot less metallic now, also seems slightly louder.
The new spring is a Systema 1Joule, needed to downgrade cos i mostly play CQB and can only get within the 328fps limit if i have the hop up dialed all the way up!
All back in one piece now though :D
Bit beaten up but shoots great!

It is, but i've never found it to be a problem. I've owned more balanced RIFs but enjoy shooting this one more than any of the others.
