Deans connectors
9 December, 2010, 23:09
I've been looking into ways if improving efficiency of battery output and I was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on either:
Deans connectors
Removing the fuse and to what effect?

Re: Deans connectors
I have changed all my guns to deans, they increase the ROF and trigger response slightly, and are much more efficient.

Re: Deans connectors
Yeah a real easy job mate
But before doing so
may we suggest to re wire the gun to a more suitable wire
say silver spun or 18agw wiring so can handle added power load
But after done so
The wire just solderes onto the correct tab so red to positive and black to negitive

Re: Deans connectors
* Rewire to 16 awg wire, or 18 if you lack space.
* Add a mini blade fuse, they are a bit less resistive than a glass one, cheaper too, but still offer some protection.
* Reduce physical gear resistance... many ways to do this, look into upgrading gearboxes.
* Route your trigger through a simple mosfet unit (AB not necessary)
All of those actions will improve efficiency from reducing the high-resistivity points, but will also increase ROF
Oh, last step, switch over to LiPo, you get more bang per mAh, as long as the ampere rating is over the guns draw, or about 25+A continuous or so (if not given, it is the C rating times the Ampere hours).
Hope that helps

Re: Deans connectors
I have found XT60's to be better than deans, but much less used.

Re: Deans connectors
Was all going so well till Bach made me think I need to get out my copy of electronics for dummies!
Seriously though, thanks for the advice. Will have to dig out my tool box and have a wander down to the electrical shop!

Re: Deans connectors
So from all of this I have decided to give it a go. One last bit of advice though, what size heat shrink is needed and how is it applied (noddy, I know)?
Aeg is an ares m4.

Re: Deans connectors
The heatshrinks normally come with the connector mate, you simply slide each heatshrink on, then get out either a heatgun or hairdryer for a few seconds till it shrinks...

Re: Deans connectors
Sorry, I meant I have seen different sized shrinks, so how would I know what is right?

Re: Deans connectors
Id say get 5mm heatshrink. Ive just rewired all my guns to deans connectors and I used 3.5mm heatshrink which was just barely big enough to get over the connectors, in hindsight 5mm would have been a lot easier!
