Re: Sopmod vs ICS hopup
you cant its in the design. The hop nubs bigger than a standard tm nub, so replacig the hop rubber with a normal tm one wont cut it, youll need a version 2 one for the same out of box accuracy.
The feed tube is shorter, allowing the mag follower to actually reach the last bb which means all bbs get feed from the mag. im sure theres a host of other benifits to less distance betweeen the mag spring and the hop unit.
The arm is fixed both in its up and down movement but also its side to side movement. So it doesnt deviate when hit, or over time, the so called fixed idea which ptw owners go on about. This is important for consistancy over time and also how it handles heavy ammo, The heavyer the ammo you use the more hop you need to apply. Alot of hops will max out when trying to apply the needed hop for lots of range on 0.28's
The adjust has click adjustments which means it doesnt undo over time, through impact etc this is good as theres 32 hop clicks, when playing if you know how many clicks you play at it doesnt mater if you move it as you go to the start and count your clicks..
The actual unit is much tighter, so when you hear people talk about improving air seals with grease or ptf thats simply not needed with the sopmod unit.
Another note worth adition is a 3rd locating notch on the c clip which locates the barrel, this goes in the top of the barrel in the little cut out. It locks the barrel in place, so it can not twist left or right. In normal hop units the traditional side clips dont work 100% in keeping the barrel straight, leading to misalignment. you know when people get weird curving left shots etc.
The hop nub cannot move left or right or forward or backward, when it moves it just goes up and down. And never moves.
But the main thing is how it handles the heavy ammo. Sopmod owners that are getting the most range have switch up to 350 fps, 0.28 ammo, and the firefly rubber and flat nub. with there own personal choice of barrel. You need the option to be able to over hop even with 0.28s, ie seeing them go straight then shoot up wards.. when you know youve gone to far you can go back, if your hop doesnt allow you to over hop 0.28 then youll never know whether your at your max range or not.
