AEG gearbox upgrades... whats the best thing to do?
1 February, 2011, 19:41
Hi all, got an M14 today (Classic Army) and already fitted a new tightbore barel, hop rubber is next but wanted to know what parts should i be looking at to replace in the gearbox to give it good and consistent FPS?
at the moment the FPS is 280 average which to me seesm a little on the low side....
any advice will be appreciated
thanks

Re: AEG gearbox upgrades... whats the best thign to do?
You need to identify the cause of the low FPS. Should be up in the 300 mark for classic army. That being said 280 isn't exactly too bad, I've been running mine on 283fps for a while now on .20's with no issues.
First things first, do you know the rating of the spring in there at the moment? Next thing is check the compression of the gearbox. With it open, pop your finger over the air nozzle and push the piston forward. The better the compression, the hard it will be to push past the hole in the piston.

Re: AEG gearbox upgrades... whats the best thign to do?
ok i just tested compression and it was pants really bad, so just swapped the O-ring with one from a VSR and its prety spot on now
problem is it now has a tendency to pop the cylinder head off :/ is that a bad thing?
obv it won't be doing that whilst its inside the gearbox but still should i be looking at gettinga new one maybe?
thanks

No. The cylinder head will be held in by the gearbox.
