    may someone explane what the difference between helical and flat gears is. ive never really bothered to look at the two types and see

    Helical gears have angled teeth.

    I think a lot of people have the opinion of "there's no real point in helical gears, just go with standards".

        Helical are supposed to be quieter and take more strain due to more contact points.

          As Jag said, my personal belief is that a slanted gearset has more surface contact area tooth-to-tooth, thus the load pressure is more widely spread.
