what gears for m140 spring
15 July, 2011, 17:47
I have used the search and it hasn't come up with the answers for me.....
My question is - What gears do i need to fit to be able to safely use a M140 spring in a locked to semi auto ICS V2 gearbox?
Are 32:1 suitable?
Which manufacturer is rated as being reliable?
i am aware that there are other issues with high power springs in V2 gearboxes before anyone goes off topic on that issue
Cheers

Agreed, however I am building a DMR and use Battle Lakes which allows 450fps semi auto aegs with a 25m engagement.
Once the spring settles I am hoping for somewhere between 400 and 450.

Re: what gears for m140 spring
Up to you really, 32:1, 300% would make things quite easy on the motor.
If you wanted to you could run them on 200% torque gears or even standard ratio, but you would need something like the SHS cnc gears and an Ultra torque motor, a big battery and something to stop the front of the gear box from leaving the party. You would need to think about half tooth pistons too. Gear set depending of course.
Gun tech.

I didn't think standard ratio gears would support such a strong spring?

Re: what gears for m140 spring
best thing to do if not already.
polish your upper gearbox (scratch remover) polish till bleeding point!
swiss cheese your piston.
ensure 100% no airleak - O ring nozzle, e.t.c
super smooth cylinder.
"correctly" relube the piston, slide and cylinder. i use teflon spray on the tracks. madbull 6.01 stock length. <-- optional
do this before upping your spring strength and buying new gears.

Re: what gears for m140 spring
They will but it's a little hard on components compared to torque sets for obvious reasons.
I have found those ICS M4's to give high fps genearally anyway. Up to 380+ with an M100.
Something I hadn't seen befor was 400 in a G and P with no bearings and an M100.

After all, you've seen what can happen to a V2 gearbox front, even at stock levels

Re: what gears for m140 spring
Thanks Midas, you have given me all the answers I need.
Anikid - the question regarding my current fps, internals, barrel length size and spring are all irrelevant to my original question.

Re: what gears for m140 spring
they are quite relivent as how much more fps you need to gain, certain parts may not be the best (1/5 cylinder). having a short length barrel (super stubby length).
a m140 spring may = 500+
a m160 spring may = 300fps
the more we know on what you are running internaly the better we can help, ok =) (for all we know is that you are running on plastic bushings or 6mm bearings that will fail at higher fps thats all.
but if you just want an m140 go with any gears you can find as it will not matter for long.
