    G&G M4 Upgrade...

First of all, let me apologise, I don't really belong with an AEG, my VSR's are my babies, so bare with me...

    Ok, so...

I've done my reading up / research etc... I believe I have gone ahead and bought everything I need to make a fairly decent M4.

Here's the list of what I have (everything is brand new):
    -G&G GR16 R4 Carbine
-Guarder Full 120sp Tune Up Kit
-Guarder TM Clone Plastic Hop-Up Unit
-Promthius & Guarder Buckings (I'm thinking of going with the Promy)
-Promethius M4 Length 6.03 Barrel (I have the wrong one at the moment, it's a little too long (407mm), but should have the right one soon)
    -MOSFET
    -9.6V 2500mAh Batteries
    -Systema M100sp

I'm pretty sure I'm onto a winner here, but my main concerns and questions are:

-What kind of problems may I come across?
-Will I get a decent air seal with those upgrades in the G&G?
-What spring will get me closest to 350fps (not more than 5fps over) with that set up (I'm prepared to buy another spring)?
-What kind of ROF am I looking at getting here?
-Should I be looking at buying anything else?
    -Will this be relatively reliable?

Thanks in advance for any help,

    Alex (mj23lj)

shoulda just left the gun stock instead of buying a brand new gun then chucking a whole bunch of upgrades at it. i know this doesnt actually help. but i dont think that the stuff your brought will actually make much diffrence to a brand new weapon. except obviously the tightbore and the mosfet.

No mate, it does help... So you reckon I should use up what the stock rifle has to give and then put the up grades in?

I was thinking that I could keep the stock parts for back up on my newer Guarder parts - My sites charge £25 for any internal work, so it will be cheaper for me to get everything done in one go.

What could I add to make a difference then?

      Thanks,

      Alex

G&G weapons are perfectly fine stock, or atleast they should be. that 120sp spring is goin to give u more then 350fps, probably something like 380+ as an m100 is classed as the 350ish spring. i dunno why your brought a tune up kit for a brand new weapon but nevermind.

I dunno what ROF you are gonna get as i dont knw what kind of motor comes stock with the gr16. i think its speed and not torque in wich case it might have trouble pulling that 120. so use the m100 you brought.

At the end of the day if u was goin to spend so much money on uneeded parts you might aswell have got a custom built M4 from "mextreme blairsoft" (not the real name of the site obviously)

Being honest my M4 is running a bit on the low side (280-290fps), especially considering the retailer quoted 350fps....

I didi think the M100 would probably more suitable...

I bought the FTUK so that I would have a very reliable rifle, as I don't know much about AEG's, I wanted to pay for the work once, and then not have to go back for awhile.

I didn't spend as much as you think (I got a good deal). The G&G was around £110, and the FTUK was around £60.

sounds like a bargain to me, a G&G for 110. thats a nice price indeed.

A HK retailer was having a sale and I spent over $500 so they dropped another 10%+

Yes it will make a difference. If built and shimmed properly, the AEG will run faster, smoother, make a better noise, last longer, have greater range, FPS, be more consistant and have tigher groupings.

                To mi23lj, answering your questions:

1, Provided you build it and shim it correctly, nothing in the list jumps out at me as being a major problem. Take your time, clean all the peices and apply grease, a few tips for building a gearbox/shimming:

When you are ready to put it together, assemble it with just the gears inside. Then spin them manually (move the sector gear) and see if you can feel any patches of resistance. They should at least spin a full turn on their own after you push them before stopping due to friction.

Then put in the piston (not the cylinder though), and line it up so you can push the gears round with the piston. Close the gearbox and push and pull the piston, again feeling for resistance. Then add the ARL, and the tappet plate and the reat of it, each time feeling for anything that might add resistance.

2, Yes, provided it's assembled correctly.

3, M100. I can't tell you what brand, as they differ and I won't pretend to know them all. Also, be aware it may go slighly over because of the tight airseal/tighbopr barrel. If you you can clip down the spring (one loop at a time), to lower it. It's roughly 10fps per loop of spring clipped off. Until you clip of more than about 5 loops in which case the FPS goes fairly haywire.

4, Can't say, but fairly damn nice, again shimming is important here, as is motor height.

5, If you want to, get some highspeed gears. They're only really needed for systema motor speeds though, and won't add much until you get onto that class of motor.

6, If you build it well, it'll go for a nice long time.

                Hope this lot helps.

Thanks mate, that's great. Those tips are very helpful (I should have PM'd you on this, but I thought I had abused you with enough of these questions as it is, lol)...

I have never opened up an AEG before but feel I am quite competent with technical stuff (with my VSR's anyways). Do you think with the use of an online guide I'd be ok to do it myself?

                  Thanks again bud,

                  Alex

Thanks bud, as usual you have been way more than helpful...

I'll make sure to let you know how I get on.

                      Thanks again,
