motor getting hot.. single shot sticking!
8 August, 2011, 20:18
hello all,
I bought a back up JG HK416 with a GP v2 gear box.
had some problem with it not going on single shot, but it still has some problems....
When I fire it, the motor gets quite hot! as in the grip is more than just warm... when I took the motor out the other day, it was V hot!!
I took the gear box apart, cleaned it, shimmed it... though I did notice where the motor vomes in some grinding marks.. I have checked all the teeth and they seem fine!!
I re put this back together and then retried it today!!
its seemd fine at first, very snappy, and sounded great..
it fires fine on single shot, but after say 30-50 shots, it keeps jamming, I put it on full auto and it will unjam it...
but I have tried it a bit more and full auto is getting slower, this is making my lipo warm aswell!!
any ideas what could be doing this??
or is it take it to a specialist?
the grip is screwed in with just one screw.. but its in tight so should be holding the motor in tiht etc!!
cheers guys!

Re: motor getting hot.. single shot sticking!
Yeah, if its the gun i think it is then it has a JG red or blue motor in there, id swap it out and see what happens, i meant resistance not friction lol. My bet is its the motor causing it, swap it out and post back here, as you said yourself it started off snappy, so unless something is changing inside the GB then the only other thing it could be is electrical, ie motor, battery or switch

SHS high torque motor would be a good bet, under £30. Great motor!

I have up graded many guns and wont go past these motors!!! As i've said before. These motors are like land rovers - They'll pull anything in any condition.
Also I've found that up grading the wires in your gear box to 16 awg or 14awg helps the "motor over heat" problem. (14 awg may be a bit thick and your motor may catch these when inserted into the gear box i'd use 16awg silcone wire). Try the motor first and see how it goes.

Re: motor getting hot.. single shot sticking!
Try shim from the bevel gear. Make sure motor height is spot on and the pinion is meshing with the bevel gear properly.
BTW you can get a Dream Army super torque (I think it's called) exact same motor as the SHS rebranded but costs like £10 or something.

Re: motor getting hot.. single shot sticking!
before I buy another motor is there anything else I can try to make sure it the motor???
How hot do these thing usually get??? I just opened it up and held it while firing on Full auto for a bit, its quite hot!!! not super hot, but warm!!
Also, when this all messes up, full auto is fine, is just semi i am having the problem with...
or could this all to be with the problems I had with firin in semi auto before ( the small spring on the selctor switch)...
also anyone tried one of these Dream Army ultra torque motors???
chers guys

Re: motor getting hot.. single shot sticking!
The Dream Army motors have amazing torque for the price.
I use one in an M4 of mine and I get about 30RPS with stock JG gears and short stroked by 2 on an 11.1v lipo. Runs smooth and cool, the wiring barely gets warm and the pistol grip is pretty much cool unless you're hand's warming it up. Though I haven't tested any extensive full auto, just short controlled bursts of about 5BBs.

Re: motor getting hot.. single shot sticking!
I am now starting to think it may just be the spring on the selector switch needs changing.
I had problems getting this onto single shot... due tot he selector plate and that spring being dead, so I put a lighter spring in there... I shall buy a proper spring first, try that.
As the gun seems to fire fine on full auto.. just single shot it doesnt like!!!

Re: motor getting hot.. single shot sticking!
Changed the spring... Still messing up...
Sometimes i'n single shot it doesn't do a full cycle... Full auto fires fine! So do you think it must be the motor?!?
