Changing a spring
9 August, 2011, 12:24
Hey, I looked at the sticky thread for the version 2 gearbox and I need to change the fps spring in my gun...
Is it really that easy to change it..
Simply take the gearbox case off and change the spring.. Without touching anything else?

Re: Changing a spring
yeah if thats all you want to do and not adding a monster spring, i would recommend also looking at some v2 gearbox takedown guides to see how you open up and close a gearbox, youtube will help

Re: Changing a spring
Well it's downgrading the spring... The gun was shooting 370 and changing it to a M90 spring. So all I need to do is replace the spring and nothing else?

Re: Changing a spring
It is never that simple...
You need to look at how you stop everything else escaping while you are swapping springs....
For example, you need to hold the cylinder down and poke something up the spring guide. Then watch out for the arl.
You need to grease the spring too befor putting it back in.

Re: Changing a spring
heres a good video.
It shows you everything for the version 2 gearbox. It also shows how to change the bushings from nylon to metal. You may not need to/want to, do this but it shows you where everything is and how to change the spring.

Re: Changing a spring
Thanks Breach
And the reason for M90 is that it'll give me (in theory) 300-330 fps.
My local site limit is 350 and by having M90 I can still use it at CQB sites.
That's the theory anyway

Re: Changing a spring
If it is made and tested using 0.2's an M90 should give just under 300.
M100 should give 328.

Re: Changing a spring
Dont do it mate, gearbox's are the spawn of statan. Trust me ive just done a Ver.3 gearbox. I would of paid anything for someone to come and just do it. It took me hours, youtube vids are ok as a ref but the people who upload them vids have done it a million times and make it look so easy. I will never open a gearbox again as long as i draw breath lol.

Re: Changing a spring
Do not listen to 6mm, you just need to be confident, watch a load of youtube vids and then make sure you know where everything goes, then its fine, and ver2 gearboxes are easier to work on than ver3's as you dont have an annoying trigger that you have to hold in place. Make sure everything is in the right place when you put the case back together aswell. Also, when you put the gb back together, put the pistol grip on and make sure it works before you put it back in the gun, nothing worse than assembling your gun and then finding that you have to take it apart again.

Re: Changing a spring
In reference to those who say use an M100; I would usually agree BUT I have recently put an M100 into a gun and it only dropped the fps to 370. I had to use an M90 in the end to get it to 330. So it can depend on a lot of other factors not just the spring you drop in unfortunately.
Like the other say though, give it a go otherwise you'll never know!
