  • Heatshrink size

Hi guys, quick and simple question really.

What size (diameter - before/after) heatshrink do you use for 16-18awg wire? Aimed to be wide enough to for it to fit comfortably onto deans connectors, but shrink down low enough to allow me to fit the little spade or ring connectors for the motor contacts I keep buying a range of sizes, but it's just wasteful really.

    Cheers, Nikolay.

    Re: Heatshrink size

Most heatshrinks have a 2:1 shrink ratio. That means if it's unrestricted, it will shrink to half the diameter it was when bought.
So, measure the diameter of your wire, multiply it by 2, and that's the max internal size heatshrink you should get.
If you need a higher ratio, consider using a small piece on the wire as a "spacer".
