Couple of wiring questions

I need to extend the front wiring on my m4. Long story, don't ask!!
Basically I dont want to take apart the gear box again, but couple of questions:

A) what wire would people advise? 12 or 16 aeg, and what variation as the seems to be a few differing opinions?

B) is it possible to extend the existing wire by soldering a new piece on and cover the joint with heat shrink/electrical tape? Will I lose power/connectivity etc?

go for 16, and yes you can do that its fine, you should notice a loss in power, i have done with with a few of my M4's and its been fine

Cheers jez, is that should or shouldn't notice a loss in power, just doesn't quite make sense when you say it will be fine but should be a loss in power.
