Re: 500fps electronic sniper
Hi Guys, new DMR SL8 sniper nearly finished! :-)
Just slightly disappointed with the range.
Currently using Madbul Black a python Barrel with madbul blue hop rubber and using TM G36 hop unit.
Can this set up be improved upon
Many thanks ;-)
Steve

Re: 500fps electronic sniper
Mate, the MOSFET is mint, thanks again for that Joe ;-)
What a flat hop mod Joe?
I'm currently using the blue madbul hop rubber with the nub that came with it..... I have tried things like the red prometeum hard rubber but it does seem to like them despite being a 480 fps gun?

Re: 500fps electronic sniper
I think the "flat hop" uses a "plate" rather than a cylinder for the nub, to spread the effect over a longer period.
It involves modding the barrel hop opening, among other things.

Re: 500fps electronic sniper
Longer barrel will provide no noticable effect other than a fps boost, flat hop mod in simple terms,
takes away the "bump" from the hop rubber that usually gives us backspin and uses a longer nub to improve contact length on the bb, did a custom jobby for my vsr and galil with range improvements and accurqcy at range due to more hop effect. Had a thread up but its gone.

Re: 500fps electronic sniper
Thats basically it yeah, although i elongated my hop window for a longer contact patch and made a longer concave nub. Heres my end result with hop fully on, the contact window and nub is around 7mm long.

Re: 500fps electronic sniper
You really need some experiance setting up guns to be using high speed gears and big springs.
I have used M150 springs and 13:1 gears with 14.8's and simple fets without problem. In fact I did once squeese an M170 in a gear box...lol. Took it out again though, well it too itself out actually but thats splitting hairs. Parts everywhere.
I would probably use 18:1 (standard ratio) with an M150 for arround 500fps as Joe says you would be pretty unlucky to get overspin with torque motors and an M150 spring. You need a hard hop rubber and nub for 500 fps. Those Madbull ones CAN be a little tempermental.
Make sure you have the proper cylinder if you extend the barrel.

Re: 500fps electronic sniper
I like it Joe! I found my fps dropped, only reason i can think is the extra friction from the larger contact area on the hop rubber-bb is having a larger effect. My range went up by about 50%! How do you find yours after that trick? Any pictures of it being done? If so feel free to post in the "Modding your hop" thread I linked to, would be great to have modding the window in there too!

Re: 500fps electronic sniper
Also using a full cylinder which I'm assuming is correct when using a longer barrel
