one of the four screws along the top of the box. anyway I can get it out? it seems that it has lost the thread.

If its threaded then I would simply remove the rest then use a flat screwdriver to prise that part of the box apart while attempting to unscrew the damaged screw.

does the screw stick out the other side of the casing at all

if it does use a set of pliers and unscrew from the wrong side until you can turn with plies on the head

other wise mate, you can do the gb prying being carefull not to snap the thin connection rail where the screw sits

or you could snap the head off, and when the gearbox is in half just un screw the remaining thread

use a screwdriver on it very gently and push the screw from the other side. Those holes always strip, it's a right pain -_-

when this happened to me I used a dremmel to cut a slot in the head of the screw and then used a flat head screwdriver to unscrew it.

I have had this problem a few times and I have found the easiest way to remove the damaged screws is to use a screw extractor these are available in kits for around £10.00 If you do a search on the web you will find them and they are also available from some high street DIY stores.

use a 3mm drill bit and drill out the screw, this is small enough not to damage the thread and put a new screw in it
