star m249 gearbox help

hi ive just bought a star m249 from here and it has the plastic shell. can any other gear box from a classic army or a&k fit and work in the star m249???

I can tell you that the A&K one does not fit, and I believe that it is a clone of the CA one...There was a custom one available but good luck finding one!

Is there a problem with the one you have? They are pretty durable, better than some of the cheaper monkey metal V2/V3 that I have seen. There is a one 'weak' spot where you can get a 'chip' out of the piston slide rails, but there is a 'workaround'.
