CM16 Raider GBLKv2 Wobbly Charging Handle Help
18 July, 2013, 09:55
Hi! I recently bought a G&G CM16 Raider GBLKv2 and I must say I'm very happy with this 'bargain' gun (also wanted to say that Zero One were incredibly quick and helpful when dispatching this item and it was delivered in just 18 hours including the two tone painting!).
The only thing that bothers be is that the charging handle is quite loose and has a fair bit of sideways movement. I've took some pictures to demonstrate/illustrate the problem a little better:

Essentially the problem boils down to the fact that the inlet on the underside of the charging handle is much bigger than the protruding notch of the gas piston which the charging handle pulls back. Because there is so much movement between these two parts it acts a little wobbly.
Has anyone experienced this before and is there an easy fix? I have seen some higher-end charging handles available but I'm not sure if they would fit at all or if they would have the same issue. My other idea was to use something like Sugru (
https://sugru.com/
) to fill in the inlet on the back and shape it so it is a nice tight fit on the piston notch, but I'm not sure how easy this would be to remove if it all went wrong and I would like to try all parts in working order as it's not a huge issue, just a minor annoyance.
I'm also thinking about replacing the spring on the charging handle so that it requires a little more pressure to pull back, as currently it's very light, does anyone have any suggestions on where to find replacement springs?

Re: CM16 Raider GBLKv2 Wobbly Charging Handle Help
I've had that with my ghk box (that the G&G is based on)
best to swap over the charging handle to one with a narrower channel running down the center, (i've used vfc & src ones without a problem) can be hit and miss with some as the lip at the end of the channel can be quite shallow on some (eg gaurder) and won't chatch the top of the piston.
filling the channel could work too though.
As for the spring, a run of the mill charging handle spring will work with a bit of modification to get it loop properly over the post, since they are narrower.
I'm curious about the "working bolt catch" that the V.2 g&g box has, could you take a couple of pics of that? i'm wondering if that feature could be retro-fitted to the orginal boxes.

I'll try snap some tonight as I'm going to have a go at filling the channel and see how well it works, worst case scenario I can pick up one of those charging handles you suggested

Re: CM16 Raider GBLKv2 Wobbly Charging Handle Help
For anyone that is curious, I used some Sugru on the charging handle and I am currently waiting for it to 'cure', it's much messier than I anticipated and from what the guy in the store told me, it's quite rubbery when cured so it may not work perfectly, but apparently its very easy to remove so for £8 (and 4 pouches left over) it's deffo worth it.
Also for endo I made a quick vine to demonstrate the bolt lock, I didn't realise until I tried to video it that the majority of the wizadry is in the v2 mag, the piston itself just has a small tab [underneath the piston] which catches on the mag when empty, the clip should explain it better:

here is a high res image of the piston:

I was thinking of making my own review of this gun soon, as I find it a bit frustrating that most of the info on the internet refer to the v1, which appears to have a couple of flaws that have been corrected in this updated model. I'm happy with it anyway!

Re: CM16 Raider GBLKv2 Wobbly Charging Handle Help
Cheers for taking the time to do that
I actually meant the bolt release catch, thats the thing they added to the v2.
But the video and extra pics and video are great, doesnt look like they changed much to get the catch working other than extending it so it has a lever bit to catch on the piston and stay locked forward till you release it.
Hmmmm Might hunt down a spare to see if i can get that working.
