TM Hi Capa: Fixed Outer Barrel vs Floating
1 January, 2015, 14:06
I was looking at the AIP aluminium 'fixed' (non-recoil) outer barrekls, and was just wondering what the pros and cons were compared to floating outer barrels. are all metal outer barrels fixed?
Cheers

Re: TM Hi Capa: Fixed Outer Barrel vs Floating
Most metal outer barrels move when unlocking like the standard plastic one. You will find, especially on extra heavy barrels or poor barrel/slide combinations, that the barrel can jam into the locking lugs while unlocking, so that's why some companies came out with fixed ones. Fixed ones are less realistic of course, but should make the cycle smoother and stop jams. I usually modify my cheap metal pistols like WEs and KJWs so they don't jam by altering the outer barrel to only move horizontally, rather than vertically, which stops the locking surfaces jamming while out of battery.
