    Silly question#34..Why does the TM M1911A1 quarter cock?
    Is it for effect or does it do it for a reason..

    Cos the real one can... It's a form of safety.

    On the real one, the half cock is very useful. If the pistol's half cocked, you can assume there's a round in the chamber. You can't accidentally pull the trigger though. Well you can, but it wouldn't do anything. And if there was a round in the chamber, without a half cock function, dropping the pistol onto it's hammer, could cause an "accidental" discharge. Also, you wouldn't know a round was chambered, and may well just waste that one racking the slide before use. Unfortunately, decocking a 1911 has to be done manually, which is frankly dangerous. Newer pistols, such as the Sigp226 and the USP have a decocking lever. The lever also removes the firing pin from operation while dropping the hammer, so it's safer. Then again, the 226 doesn't have any other safety features.

    It's just a case of airsoft imitating real weapons. There's hardly any practical value to it in airsoft terms.
