Soaking o-rings in brake/hydraulic fluid?
19 August, 2010, 22:58
I've read quite a few people mention soaking o-rings in brake/hydraulic fluid to get them back in a usable state if they dry out.
What I'm wondering, though, is this. If you've got a valve assembly that you can't take to pieces and you soak the whole thing in brake fluid, what do you clean it with afterwards? Obviously you can't start messing with it while it's dripping with fluid, as it will melt your gun's paintwork and isn't good for your fingers either.
What I thought was to drain off the brake fluid, then rinse with plenty of warm water, dry it and then finally give it a good spraying with silicone spray before putting it back.
Any good?

Nooooo dont use brake cleaner, that stuff reverses all the work the brake fluid just done.
Just warm water, water breaks down brake fluid.

?????
Brake fluid is hygroscopic, it absorbs water.

Yeah, I see what you mean. It will dilute the brake fluid.
I wouldn't have used brake cleaner as that's a degreaser.
