  • Degreasing a GBB

I've recently bought a used GBB Sig 226 and, while I wait for a replacement part, it needs a bloody good clean.

I realise that the blowback mechanism, hop and mag have o-rings in them but are there any other parts of the gun which I can't give a soak in degreaser?
I'm not sure if it's ever been cleaned properly, but it's almost clogged solid with really dirty grease, so a good clean would do it wonders.

Nothing else perishable springs to mind. Robin, try using a dollop of swarfega and toothbrush to get rid of all the crap.

Just what I was going to suggest, works a treat...degunk all my guns with that and if it needs some encouragement to come off, I use a cotton bud...havent had any adverse effects yet

I did wonder about the brake cleaner, but I didn't want to use it without someone else having been the guinea pig first!

Cheers for the help guys, I'll give it a try as silicon spray alone hasn't shifted it all.

Brake cleaner is perfectly fine mate.
Just keep it away from the rubbers.

Just to check, do I make that by soaking worms in warm water and then add some French washing up liquid

Seriously though, I did use that for a couple of parts, but don't like to do it where I can't fully dry everything due to the risk of corrosion.

Silicone oil/spray and an old toothbrush.

depending on the rubber compound (which you won't know without experimenting) brake cleaner can attack seals and swell them up.

Yep and thats why he has all the rubber parts out of the gun beforehand.
