  • Building a skirmishable 1911

    Hi guys,

I am looking to buy a 1911 as a new skirmish gun, I'm hoping to get a full metal pistol and then go about making it look a bit nicer and perform in a reasonable way.

Can anyone offer any advice towards this? I know the TM model is regarded as the greatest 1911 around by most but I'm thinking of using a Tercel 1911 as a base, from what I've read it is a 100% TM clone and it'll keep the price on the more manageable side. I'm also thinking I'll end up polishing the ejection port to make it silver, as my first "customisation".

Where would I go from here? Where do you even get hold of 1911 customisation parts such as grips, slides, barrels, springs etc? PM links if required please.

I know there are some people on here who love to customise these things so any help would be greatly appreciated!

As a secondary or for CQB, the TM 1911 is skirmishable out of the box. However, the biggest failing with it is it's gas capacity, with it sometimes struggling to empty a mag before the gas runs out.
As for custom parts, Z1 of course

you can allways consider building a custom WA pistol but you will have to budget slightly higher and you will find it harder to buy parts but i personally dont think you can beat western arms

if you want to increase gas capacity go for a WA 1911 with the SV double stack mags, they hold alot of gas and more rounds - then you can make a very custom 1911

No 1911 holds a decent amount of gas, I have owned 4 now, a WE, a WA, TM and bell, all pap, the double stackers are pointless, as the issue of gas capacity is still there, you'll never get a full mag out of them consistantly, regardless of how much you spend imo.

Buy a cheap M9 variant, or a glock, much better! £50 will get you a skirmishable all day long gun, and you'll deffo get a mag out of em!

          Re: Building a skirmishable 1911

I own a TM G17, and I'm very happy with it apart from needing to buy a new metal slide because the abs on finally gave in.

I think the 1911 appeals to me because its different at least in the sense of I don't have one (I know everyone else does :P) but also because I'll be able to put a bit of money into it and make it look nice and shiney. Glocks can't do silencers I'm pretty sure its an unwritten rule!

Like M4's, 1911's have the same advantage due to being popular with everyone, there should in theory be a ton of parts available!

              NOOOOooooooooo!!!! Why!?!

I thought glocks were nice because of their simplicity! That is truely madness.

If you like 1911s, how about a Hi-Cappa?

A hi capa could be just the thing I'm looking for!

I assume the TM 5.1 is the one to go for? What sort of upgrade and cosmetic possibilities exist with hi capas? They already look like quite nice pistols, I've seen them before but funnily enough never really considered them over a 1911.

I love my TM 1911, straight out of the box best pistol I have owned. The accuracy and range are obscene. Only downside is a bit plasticy and as mentioned the gas capacity.

Keep an eye out for 2nd hand on here and other forums there are some bargains to be had.

Actually, if it's a TM you're after I'm probably going to sell mine simply because I bought a MEU and I don't even use that as much as I'd like
