  • Headset / PTT Radio Compatibility knowledge base

I think it might be useful to build up an information base around what headsets (e.g. Element Bowman with Military plug) , PTTs and Radios are found to be compatible.

There are so many combinations that it all becomes it little uncertain and sometimes a bit of a gamble. I'm sure the accumulated experience of Zeroin members combined can provide everyone with a useful top level guide on compatibility.

What I propose is that you post what you currently use and is working in the following format:

Headset: Make, Type and Connector (e.g. Element, Bowman, Military Plug)
PTT: Make, Type and Pin Connector (Comtac, PTT, Kenwood Dual pin)
Radio: Make and Model (Puxing, Puxing777 UHF)

    Example

Headset: Element, Bowman, Standard Military Plug
PTT: Comtac, PTT, Kenwood Dual pin (long pin is 3 conductor, short pin is 3 conductor)
    Radio: Puxing, Puxing777 UHF

The above is a logical sequence in that you buy a headset that is mated to the PTT which in turn is connected to a radio. It seems that headsets and PTT are sold as separates these days to allow maximum flexibility. It will help to ensure that you use terms/ descriptions used by vendors to avoid as much as possible any ambiguity. The PTT pin type is a critical bit of in formation as it indicates how the PTT connects to the radio. Without the PTT pin type, the information is not very useful.

I will then, periodically, compile and update a table showing everyone's responses. The table can then become an indicative guide on comms headset and radio compatibility for al of us.
