  • How to stop spray paint wrinkling?

Sprayed something, and then did another coat on top and it went all wrinkly and paint came off?

How do you stop this from happening?

    Thanks

Primer, then leave the first coat if paint much longer to dry.

It's also a common side affect of spraying it into thick. Spray lots and cover less with each stroke. It will look better

Think one problem might have been the paints i used, i used a primer then waited a long time (3 days) for it to dry, then used matt black on top, left that to dry for a while and then used a small amount of the primer on top (on a stencil), and now its wrinkled. What's your opinion?

I wouldn't have used primer again tbh. Clean it all up, just one layer of primer, a very thin coat of black, let it dry for 24 hours, a tiny thin layer of black again, then that other colour you want with the stencil after another 24 hour wait

Sounds like grease/oil contamination to me.
Clean the living daylights out of it with a clean Brillo sponge type thing and Fairy liquid, you could also use some fine grit wet and dry sandpaper, then clean it all down with clean cold water and leave it to dry naturally.

Then have another go with fine mists of both your primer and overcoat.

              Good luck.

You need to leave it at least 12 hours before coats for the best results. Also, how close are you spraying from? Spray from too close and you will get ripples.

Jez using Krylon doesn't guarantee a good finish, no paint does!

Plastikote is fine for this application.

Thanks guys :D Might be painting a clear airsoft gun soon, do you reckon plastikote would do that well? I'm planning to just paint it with plastikote, maybe lightly sand it first

                          Opinions? :D Sorry painting noob

But would the plastikote do the job well? Would rather not buy more paints if i can help it, got a busy week at work and not much time to go shopping in the lunch hour! I have several Plastikote paints, in alot of colours, so it'd be ideal if i could use those
