painting foregrip

hi all i have purchased a galil with polymer forgrip. for some reason the previous owner has painted the grip wich looks terrible as its all flaking off and scratched etc. so idealy i want to get a new one but as parts seem quite hard to come by i thought id see if there was any way of painting it to make it look better. my concern is that what ever i paint it with will just do the same?
