  • Specter DR magnification issue's

I've bought one of the clone DR's which was surposed to be x1/x4 mag but isin't, more like 0.4/0.9 mag. So I thinking of stripping it down removing the magnification mechanisim and using as a simple red dot sight instead. Would like to Know if anyone else has tried this or knows how to get the x4 mag to work?

    Thanks

You got one of the poor ones, its the lenses inside it that are wrong. You could in theory swap them.

They are a lick out! As Jonny says, it is the variable lens that is absolute garbage... the adjusting mechanism is usually working just fine and dandy.

You can get to the mechanism underneath with relative ease (remove the windage and elevation adjusters and then it is 4 x allen head screws - use ball drivers though as you need to go at on eof the screws on an angle) but in order to remove the variable lense i think you will need specialist tools to open up the other lenses as it is too big to fit out of the hole you made by removing the adjuster mechanism - and then there is the hassle of finding the correct replacement lens, refitting, alligning the reticule so it is square etc.

In all honesty, if it was described as x1 - x4 and it is not, send it back, get a refund and either roll with a x4 or save a bit extra and get a decent quality variable version.

              You are screwed!

**rises to address the crowd on a rather large soap box** There is alot to be said for paying a little extra and buying from a UK shop. In your case you are at a near total loss, if it was bought for a little extra, you would have at least had the product you wanted with the peace of mind of legal backing if it all went tits up. **decends from soap box**

              You can -

Use it as it is (an optic that makes the enemy seem further away - there is a Johnny English sketch in there somewhere)
Cut your losses and advertise it for what it is and try to recover some of your funds back
Turn it into a project and mess with it till your hearts content.

Haven't got a pin spanner small enough to strip the windage adjuster. Will have to see if someone wants it for looks only. Thanks guys

Use two small screwdrivers or allen keys.

Have them coming out into a triangle type of thing.
Using a 3rd tool (BIG SCREWDRIVER) lay it across the adjuster in between the protruding allen keys / small screw drivers and use them for purchase.

It will be easier if you have a vice / workbench / mate or if you could somehow turn yourself into an octopus, but it is possible - trust me on this!
