    Re: Own Gun Project Build

Range and accuracy test this morning went well ,the sight's if not pin point accurate are good enough for a human size target at 30 meters .This was the first time it's been properly tested and hop adjusted and although succesfull has high lighted an oversight in the design ,the hop is adjusted by a grub screw just in front of the mag well ,at the moment it's screwed into the top of the receiver and protrudes down to the hop ,the issue is that the grub screw has to be removed in order to quick strip the barrel/fore grip assembly ,there will be an inergrated tool stored in the gun for hop adjustment and end cap removal for battery changing but it's not ideal ,there is 2-3mm above the hop arm and below the receiver and I'm going to see if I can have the adjuster there attached to the hop assembly and removable with the barrel assembly ,it's not a deal breaker how it is but it's not ideal .this is just one of those thing's that you only see once it's all together .

Hop adjuster has been modify'd ,I made up a plastic bridge and screwed it over the hop arm on the hop assembly and the adjuster grub screw is now screw's into the plastic instead of the upper reciever ,this means it comes out with the barrel, hop and fore grip and can remain adjusted. Also made up the end cap ,I'll post pictures once the kid's are off the PC.

          Re: Own Gun Project Build

started on the cocking handle today , space is going to be rather tight in that area as it's also for the battery so i'm going to try and have a moving sprung cocking handle but it might end up as a fixed piece.i'm going to have to fit a false back to the slot it fits in as well so the battery is not visible , it's one of my hates seeing a battery visible.

            Re: Own Gun Project Build

i managed to find a way to have the cocking handle sprung ,it's not ideal ,the handle is mounted only by a 3mm guide rod so when fully back its a bit wobbly but fully forward its very secure .the whole assembly is screwed into the spring guide in the rear of the gearbox , i made it out of plastic deliberately because if you fell and landed on the handle the plastic will give or brake rather than the gearbox .

                Dadio,

Quality work on this AEG. Probably the best built I've seen in a while. I've got a couple of questions as I'm a bit qurious:

Are you going to paint it in the camo colours or leave it blued? If I remember correctly these got issued with a factory applied camo paint job.
Have you thought about making a more realistic magazine shell and house the MP40 mag internals inside it?

                  Re: Own Gun Project Build

To a large degree both questions are customer driven ,the customer want's a blue'd finish and the ability to use readily available magazines ,with the magazines you also have to think how tedious it would be for me to custom make half a dozen magazine shell's or trying to find original's that are like hen's teeth just to cut them up for an airsoft gun ,there might be some merit in making one but to be honest the customer can take some filler and fill in the grooves if he wants too ,it's not difficult or specialist work , I'm not saying it's beneath me but i'd charge for it .

That looks the absolute business dadio.
                        Is it comfortable to shoulder?

You know what all through this build I've been looking at the sight's thinking "they look awkward" but now I have the stock on it all kind of makes sense ,its comfortable and natural to look down the sights ,with this being virtually all steel it also has a nice purposfull weight and rigidity to it ,I mean its definitely a marmite gun but just like the P90 it feels a lot better than you think it should .

                            Re: Own Gun Project Build

Today I made up the sling point's ,they are an odd shale on the Owen ,sort of an L shape ,and while its easy enough to make one with 3mm mild steel rod ,a blow torch and a couple of pairs of grips ,it's actually quite hard to make two exactly the same ,or at least nearly the same so that they look the same at either end of the gun . I also made a slot in the left side of the lower receiver opposite the stock release catch and put a fake lower receiver mounting screw in the bottom ,with that the lower receiver is finished so it got the hot oil dunk .the rear sling pint is fitted and finished but I had no nice looking slotted wood screw's to mount the front one so it's down to the shops tomorrow to get a few screws and I can finish the front sling point .left to do is just blue the barrel and barrel cooling fins ,fit the front sling point and clean all the swarf out of the motor .
