  • Professional Comms Headsets

    Hi guys,

I’m looking to buy a couple of quality headsets to replace the current earpiece setup we have. I’ve tried the cheaper Z-Tactical Bowman type and found that they crap out in the wet.

I notice that many of the mil-sim guys wear ‘proper’ headphones similar to the Peltor Comtac style. I’m not likely to spend £300 on each headset though, so I’m looking for something similar e.g. full headset, sound amplifiying, boom mic.

Anyone have any suggestions/experience of something that would suit? Your help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Peltor Comtac XP with a fistmic, similar to the above. You can buy a lead that connects from either a 2.5mm or 3.5mm output to the XPs so only you hear the radio. Most fist mics (speaker mics) have an output. I got my Comtacs for £100, the lead for £14 and you can pick up fist mics quite cheaply for most radios. Hearing protection and comms in one without the massive price of comms headsets and it's reliable.

        Thanks for the advice guys.

I now have a pair of 3m pelter comtac XPs. I now need to connect them to my Motorola GP300 radio. Only real option seems to be Downlead, PTT and boom mic, which is fine. Anyone have any advice on a PTT? Haven't received the headset yet, but pretty sure it'll be NATO/Nexus wired, so need a PTT to connect motorola 2 pin and then on to the headset. Obviously 3m do them for a small mortgage, wondered is anyone has experience of any other brands that would work?

        Thanks as always

If you don't want extra stuff all over your head, go down the throat mic route. Don't get the Z-tactical ones, keep searching for the Devgru set. Top bits of kit and the guys I play with who use comms all have them.
