Deans vs AWG
21 November, 2011, 12:04
What bis the maximum AWG wire that can be soldered to a Deans.
Most I've used have carried 14 AWG but I've just come across some that use 12 AWG it seems somewhat of a task to get that size to fit on a Deans.
They are currently fitted to xt60's but he wants Deans, any tips or advice?thanks.

Re: Deans vs AWG
There's no enclosure on a Deans connector's solder tab, so the limit is determined by how fast you can get the joint hot enough to solder without melting the plastic.
Bigger wire would need bigger heatshrink.

Re: Deans vs AWG
Probably a silly question but... Why do you want to use 12awg wire in the first place? I know that if something's worth doing, it's worth overdoing but still..

What relevance does that have?
The issue with thicker wire, is can you fit it inside the gearbox tracks? if yes, sweet, be aware around the motor hole, many an "upgraded" gun i've fixed has had damage to the wiring in this area due to it being too thick.
ASG make "ultimate" wiring, its silver, so greater power transfer than standard wiring, thinner than silicon wiring, and can be bent into shape, so easier to work with! a good and often overlooked upgrade.

The relevance is that the OP is asking the best possible way to put big wires such as 12 awg onto deans and Im proving its very possible as my battery has 8 awg with deans on it..
Here are some pictures...
