ACM Bowman Headset radio compatibility?
2 February, 2012, 23:35
I need to buy a job lot of budget PMR radios to use with ACM headsets. Problem is I don't know which radios are mic/ PTT pin compatible with Motorola, Kenwood or ICOM
I need to buy 8 radios and 8 ACM Bowman headsets but cannot afford to buy Motorola, Kenwood or ICOM branded radios. I've looked at Uniden and Binatone that are very affordable but can find information about compatibility.
Does anyone know of radios (apart from genuine Motorola, Kenwood or ICOM) that work with the ACM bowman- i.e. compatible with Motorola, Kenwood or ICM headset/PTT?
I definitely do not want to modify any wiring or pins . I need the radios to work out of the box with either a Kenwood, Motorola or ICM PTT.
Thanks
Tony

have a look at the kobra radios, you can pick then quite cheap and they are pretty good for th eprice. They use single pin motorola cables.

Sorry, did you mean 'Cobra' radios?

Re: ACM Bowman Headset radio compatibility?
you can buy radio from many different brands, the Motorola, Kenwood or ICOM branded thing are just standards like SONY memory cards, SD cards etc.
Just take a note of the pin type of your radio and get the right version.

Thanks.
Am aware of the obvious or primary brands but what about Cobra or Binatone or all the other brands. It's not as simple as pins per radio. It's firstly about radio system (e.g. Kenwood system) first then pin compatability second.
Also, some brands acquire other brands but pin compatability is not converted across so for instance you could have a radio rebranded to Motorola but will not take standard Motorola headset.

Re: ACM Bowman Headset radio compatibility?
best way is ask the place where you get the radio from, they should be able to tell you what pin connector you need.
If you are using ptts then the only thing you need to worry is the ptt. the replica head sets all have same connector. Difference is on the PTT

Yep. Appreciate that but you'll find they mostly say that they work with the included headset. I have asked numerous times and that's the answer I get. They have no clue whatsoever about 'Element' or z-tactical PTTs and whether they are compatible with any radio.
Airsofters have done more cross testing of say Motorola based Element/ Ztactical PTTs with a range of motorola radios as well as non Motorola radios.
It's that experience that I was hoping to capture here on this thread.

Re: ACM Bowman Headset radio compatibility?
Found some connector dimension for you. when you have your radio headsets you can work out which type you will need.

Re: ACM Bowman Headset radio compatibility?
I use a China made non Kenwood radio and have a kenwood type connector, most cheaper radios are just copy of the Moto or Kenwood. Like mine I can use Kenwood battery on it.
