Painting Camoflage
9 April, 2009, 08:56
Hi all
Looking to paint my BAR10 and was wondering what paints to use? I see Krylon used quite a bit - is this the preferred choice for airsoft guns? If so why?
Will I need to apply a lacquer or something silmilar once the camoflage pattern is down to protect it?
Thanks for any help guys!
Regards
Skimbo

Re: Painting Camoflage
Krylon is the preferred choice for 2 reasons. First, it's a plastic bonding paint, and second, it's the best for the job (painting plastic models).
As long as the rifle is new & clean (or already has paint on it that has had a light sanding down), it will be fine to paint directly. Maybe give the rifle a quick wipe down with some alcohol.
When I paint my rifles (I just use some every day plastic bonding spray paints), I like to use 2 coats of clear matt spray. For cheaper paints (not as good as Krylon), it gives a very nice smooth finish.
I will say that for cheaper paints, there isn't a lot you can do about chipping, but a good amount of coats and some clear matt to finish it off does help.
