  • Skrimishing, back up weapons

Ok so I've never skirmished before but am approaching the time at which I want to! As in, getting my gear togehter.

I was curious to know how common it is to carry a backup weapon to an AEG? Whether it be another SMG style, or a sidearm.

Anybody got any comical stories about thier AEG locking up (breaking down) and not having a sidearm/spare to use? go covert with imaginary knife?

    Cheers.

well it cal help sometimes when you're last stand.. but most times you'll be hit before your aeg packs up or runs out of ammo :P

SMGs can be a bit big for backup, I'm a sniper, we need a backup to play... as you cant shoot anything under 25m with the rifle...

as for knifes... dodgy in airsoft, I play with a lot of ex forces guys, the sign of someone coming at them with a knife could elicit a very painful respose for the weilder...
Though there was that time with the rubber chicken...

I always carry a pistol when using the M249 because reload times are quite long so you can get caught out but don't always carry a backup with an assault rifle when at GZ due to the fact the game lasts all day, so if something goes wrong I just go back to the car and sort it.
As for how common it is, I think most players carry a pistol as well as their primary

I carry a Side Arm, as the Site I play at has a gun hit rule, If your Primary weapon takes the hit, you can switch to your secondry.

Being a semi sniper (M14), my back up is a little different being an m249...Sound ridiculous but i sling my M14 to my back when using the Para, and i've started properly wieght training so as to get used to such a large amount to carry. This is OTT is most people's eyes however so most people go with a pistol or SMG.

not all smg's are too big for backups, the MP7 in a thigh holster makes for a nice compact (if you can call it that lol) backup weapon with auto capability. it was my backup till it decided to throw a tantrum and not work, which made me get hold of a WE M1911 to replace it, however now my MP7 is working again i reckon its going to claim back its rightful place on my thigh alongside my LR300 during scrims. If your looking for an SMG backup, go for an MP7, if your going for a handgun, get a 1911

                            Re: Skrimishing, back up weapons

My M4 locked up completely (even though it had recently been "serviced" by Z1) whilst playing at Phoenix Urban. I was just bimbling along back towards the safe zone when I heard a load of enemies on the other side of the site say "lol look at how casual he's being".

Since they were out of range I started taunting them by Zoidberging up and down, after they stopped p****g themselves laughing they charged at me so I whipped out the ol' M92F and was only able to get about 3 or 4 shots off before I ran out of gas

I would've switched to my knife but they weren't allowed at that site
