Re: Skrimishing, back up weapons
My TM Detonics .45 saved me a good few times this saturday!
Brilliant as a backup when Sniping, compact as all hell too.
18 round mags may put people off, but as a backup you can't go wrong.

Re: Skrimishing, back up weapons
at GZ urban ,was using my mp5 with 9 mid caps holding a room and i eventually emptied all nine mags so i slung the smg and pulled out my tm sig226 which came with four mags gased and loaded up, 3 in their holders and one in the pistol...i knew they were coming to get me so i just stood in the room and aimed at the doorway....someone came in,i was ready for em went to blast them and nothing happened..other than the intruder shooting me....later i checked the pistol only to discover that the mag i had inserted was full of bbs but it was an old spare mag that founds its way into my kit bag and it had no valve....how i didnt notice before god only knows...not very funny i know but just thought i would share that with you all....moral of the story......................... check your kit properly

Re: Skrimishing, back up weapons
yeah generally a good pistol is all you'd ever need, or if you like the idea of an SMG or shotty i'd say a good holster or sling, which is going to keep it in its place till needed.
SMG wise, MP5k in an under arm holster with quick release seems to do the job, works great for a mate of mine, personally a pistol or dirty big M203 grenade launcher beastie.

Well said there mate
If you seriously want to carry a secondary weapon like a shotgun or a smg, its worth working out a way of properly securing it, out of the way, otherwise it will just get in the way of your movement or restrict you trying to pull a mag, or get stuck behind a door or any other number of countless problems.
Personally i go a bit overkill on sidearms, but then again, i have a lot of holsters and pockets.

Re: Skrimishing, back up weapons
One thing that was taught to me was if you're using a shotgun (preferably one without a stock) as your backup, attach it to your kit via a couple of bungess, and because they're elasticated, it's just a case of pulling forward and firing.
Don't know whether anyone's seen something like that done before, but certainly possible! Not great though if you tend to go prone a lot. You tend to shout "gun hit" more too, even though you notice it's your backup thats been hit! Hehe.

It's quite common for people to carry then but its also quite common for them to not use them during a days play.
99% of the time I'll carry a pistol because my local site is a mix of woodland and buildings with small rooms and corridors which are usually easier to move through with a pistol. I also have mini batteries in 3-4 of my fave guns so its handy to have a pistol to change to incase the battery dies mid game.
My only funny sidearm related story is the one where I got my kit ready the night before, put my pistol mags in my belt mag pouches, pistol in its hard case then forgot to put the pistol in my kit bag so I arrived on site put my kit on and realised my safariland was empty. There was a retailer on site that day tho so I bought myself another 1911. Now I have two and use them as my primaries for CQB.
I do have some stories of pistols being fun too, mostly my tm socom. Once I'd dumped all my kit and my aeg so I could sneak better and had only my socom when I noticed 4-5 enemy players moving towards me so I hid in a bush saw them look at my dumped kit pile and stand there wondering why it was there. I then started picking them off with the pistol hearing them shout "sniper" and look off into the distance.
Another game was one where the enemy team had to escort a VIP across the site without him getting killed. Our team didnt know where they set off from until 5 mins into the game and didnt know where they were going to. After searching around me another player found where they had to get the vip to and decided to set an ambush. I hid in some 5ft ferns at the side of the road with my m249 on its bipod and my socom laying at the side of me. About 10 mins later the other player told me he could see them coming down the road so I readied my pistol and just as the VIP and his 6 man escort passed me I shot the VIP right in the middle of the group of people and none of them knew where the shot came from. They just stopped dead wondering WTF. I then started picking off the escort team but the first guy I shot square in the chest just looked at where he got shot with a dumb look on his face so I shot him again and he started shooting into the ferns I was in. So I switched to my 249.
The moral of that story is, If you're going to use a pistol expect people to not take their hits.
I had it happen to me at my last game too. I was the last man holding a building with just a pistol and when I shot the enemy team they just looked at me and shouted "friendly fire" and didnt take the hit which they had been told in the brief was counted as a hit. So I shot them again and they only took the hit when I showed my arm band.

Re: Skrimishing, back up weapons
a simple pistol or small smg will suffice
one of the best backups ive owned out of about 10 pistols and 5 smgs was a ksc glock 18c, full auto gas pistol, was accurate and had good range and the 50 round extended magazines and full auto really come into there own if you come underfire from an aeg hi cap wielder
the glock is also a tiny handgun smaller than a baretta or 1911
for even more relability there are electric pistols such as the glock and usp - similar advantages to weapon above but as its electric you dont have to worry about forgetting to gas it up

Re: Skrimishing, back up weapons
Always carry a pistol. And its been a godsent on more than 1 occasion.
At a game last year i was using a KA Fal, had 8x 110 rnd mid caps, and my trusty TM 1911.
We'd repelled 2 attacks on the building we were in, but were low on manpower (3 of the origional 12) and ammo.
We were attacked again, and my last mag went into the fal. This soon ran out, as did my 2 team mates mains.
We managed to hold off another attack with pistols, but were eventually over run.
Was a great firefight.

Re: Skrimishing, back up weapons
i use to carry a pistol, but when my P226 broke, i seemed to not needed it, apart from once where for some reson i did take a back up battrey with me in the field.
the only time i can think of where you need a back up weapon is if you're a sniper, or you're in a rambo mood
