Thinking of getting a Tokyo Marui. Got some questions.
15 August, 2011, 19:15
Hi guys
So im thinking about getting a TM. Got a few questions.
Can the recoil series be upgraded from new (from zeroone) or do you have to get it done by a specialist?
How many batteries will I need for a full days airsoft?
I'm also considering some of the standard TM aegs. Any suggestions?
Any input much appreciated
Cheers guys

TM AEGs - Reliable, no frills.
That's pretty much it. They're the market standard and near everything is compatible
I didn't really like the idea of a recoil rifle so I didn't look into them, sorry.

Batteries, get a 2200 mah one and that should last you mate, all you really need to do to them is put in metal bushings and maybe an M100 and bam, a great gun.

Re: Thinking of getting a Tokyo Marui. Got some questions.
Actually, the recoil series only have certain parts made for them from a gearbox point of view. You can't simply upgrade the gears with say systema ones or run of the mill steel gears or any air nozzle, or piston or cylinder. You have to buy TM recoil specific internals. The choices are very limited. Read around and you will see. If you have never cracked open a gearbox before then I suggest you ask someone who knows about the recoil series.
Also, read the sopmod owners thread on this forum and also read the one on arnies. Then decide. The recoil range are 300fps out of the box, but they have incredible range due to the superb hop.
These guns are no ordinary run of the mill AEGs...

Re: Thinking of getting a Tokyo Marui. Got some questions.
The TM recoil M4's use a longer spring than standard AEGs, replacing them with a standard one is probably ill advised. Eagle 6 produce the correct spring for this.
As For TM, they are the most reliable out of the box AEGs you can get, with the best hop-up (so good range/accuracy). The older models (the M16, Famas, SIG, MP5 and G3 lines) are all well over a decade old and a bit basic externally by modern standards. However the P90, M14, AUG, Recoil EBB, G26 etc lines are all decent, and largely better than the competition.
I can tell you one thing for sure, people that have been playing the game a long time tend to reccomend TM to new players, those that are newer tend to prefer other manufactureres... take from that what you will.

Re: Thinking of getting a Tokyo Marui. Got some questions.
And talking of batteries.. depends upon which gun you buy..
1. SOPMOD - the custom stock TM SOPMOD batteries are crap... end of. You will need to either have a custom lipo (which will set you back £120 or have the cells replaced in the stock pack for about £25)
2. SOCOM/RECCE rifle - these will take standard battery backs, I suggest a 7.4v 2200mah 20c battery... (should last all day)

Cheers guys. No I wouldn't want to open up the gun myself ideally I want to get it done where purchased. Anyone know if zero can upgrade the recoils or any other TM suggestions?

Re: Thinking of getting a Tokyo Marui. Got some questions.
Owned several TM AEG's and only good one I have enjoyed is the P90 but i really don't like TM gearboxes..
Personally I would go for a G&G, G&P or Classic Army gun myself.
TM VSR's are good but need upgrading.

Re: Thinking of getting a Tokyo Marui. Got some questions.
Zero can of course upgrade if you want to... but to be honest you should play with one stock... if you do want upgrades then the first thing you need is a prommy tight bore 6.03 363mm. That will give you an extra 10-15fps perhaps even more....
The other upgrades will involve Zeroone taking the gearbox apart. Best thing is to ring them and talk to them and then decide.....
BTW, I have 2 recoil rifles... I think they are the mutts nutts...

Are yours upgraded? Which ones do you have? I'm thinking the g36k because I like the idea of the scope

Re: Thinking of getting a Tokyo Marui. Got some questions.
Mine are both stock (at the moment), but I do have some upgrades for them which I have not put in yet as i'm waiting for some bits from HK to arrive.
Will this be your first AEG?
G&P are also in my opnion superb, have a look at the G&P sentry.. awesome AEG and very much so easier to upgrade if so wish to.
Generally, Marui's shoot 300fps out of the box due to them being made in Japan.... whereas G&P generally shoot close to 350fps.. :D

If I can chip in here the scope isn't really up to scratch in my opinion its ok bit you would be better off buying a ACOG from G&P or another high end make and mount in on a G36C rail.
I did see a G36 with a RS scope and carry handle on it was much better eye-relief and quality.
Hope this helps

Re: Thinking of getting a Tokyo Marui. Got some questions.
For the SOPMOD, I should point out that the springs are shorter, not longer than regular ones. This means that if you get zero one to upgrade it they will put in a sthandar length age spring which will bunch up inside and not work properly.
If you talk to a guy on here called richardy and read the SOPMOD owners club thread then that should provide you with plenty of information about performance and upgrading
