Yup, all sorted now. Good job i ordered some of the large to small connector cables too, or i would of been up a creek there!
Just waiting on photobucket to get a grip and will upload a picture of how it was setup for people if they need it in the future.

My fact sheet says dont allow to discharge below 3v per cell (6v for a 7.4v)

Dont charge above 8.5v for a 7.4v

And dont charge above 1c the battery capacity i.e. 1100mah 1.1a charge rate 2200mah 2.2a charge rate etc etc.

silly question from a complete noob here,

I have a balance charger from Vapextech and the only way to connect it to the lipo is via the small balance pins, NOT from the small tamyia connector. Do I need to connect the Tamyia to a normal charger to actually charge the lipo whilst the balance charger just controls the charge?

It's not a percentage, it's voltage. You'll find that a 7.4v lipo when fully charged will have about 4.2v per cell, and the voltage drops as you use it. You should be able to check the voltage per cell via the charger. If a cell drops below 2.8v your battery is pretty much as good as toast.

Some people use a low voltage alarm but these can be a bit hit and miss. I personally use a voltage checker that just plugs into the balance tap. I check it around lunch time just to be sure, although my lipo lasts a full days skirmish easily

The cheaper/low end chargers charge via the balance cable but only charge at a low rate (not that that's a problem)

That's probably erring on the side of caution, but good advice nevertheless, no point in screwing everything you can out of your pack, you're just going to shorten its lifespan

it's a vapextech balance charger, cost about £30. Manual is a bit hard to understand but it does mention CHARGING, so I assumed it charges through the balance cable. Just doesn't seem right to me, as it also says it fully charged a battery in 10 mins. I'm guessing this is due to it being sold to me new with charge in it!

Those types of balance chargers are a good place to start, but from memory only charge at a fixed 0.5a to ensure you dont damage even the smallest of packs.
If you had a pack charge in 10mins you can be quite certain it was almost fully charged in the first place.

Wait and see how long it takes from flat...lol

So, dont let the charge drop below about 6V (3v per cell) and everything is hunky dory. Brilliant. Not quite sure what you meant about dont charge above 1c the battery capacity i.e. 1100mah 1.1a charge rate 2200mah 2.2a charge rate etc etc.
A 15c battery i take it would be dont charge above 1.5a? 0.5 for a slow trickle charge, 1.4-1.5a for a quick charge?

15C is the maximum "safe" discharge rate. Don't bother with this number for the charging.

Yeah sorry about that i just looked at the sheet again and didnt understand it myself...lol

Basicaly charge rate for 1100mah=1.1a max
2200mah=2.2a max

You get the idea

As promised...



I missed out the cable between the Tammy connector and the push in connections. (Hence, the balancing cable!) Once fitted, no more error messages, and a nice easy charge!

Nooo use XT60 on the battery!
