    Re: Server too busy

Generally its not the hosting its the performance and tuning of the SQL database. If the DB is tuned it can run on most mid size packages.

      Re: Server too busy

Do you think that with the classifieds, if you speak to the mods, their hands are tied when it comes to intervention with scammers and the like as the shop doesnt want the mods getting involved. Now that could be seen as taking the backseat to avoid further issues (which is tantamount to committing the crime yourself) or in my conspiracy theorist like brain, its actually a way of putting people off using the classifieds and buying new from Z1. If people dont feel safe, they wont use it. Or at minimum using the escrow service.

It would be interesting to find out the real reason as to why the mods hands are tied on that matter, rather than the 'because we arent lawyers, so we cant get involved', which in part is true, but steps can still be taken to aid buyers (and sellers) and bring a happier, safer trading experience for all.
Most server hosts expect mod teams and admins to make sure this sort of thing doesnt happen, server providers do not allow and will not tolerate illegal activity to take place on their servers (my step brother is an IT tech and runs a big server hosting company in the UK, all the guidelines and rules are the same across the board).

However I digress from the core subject.
Yes, higher bandwidth/space is required for the forum, although it wont happen as we dont pay for it to happen (not directly at least).

I'm quite surprised that I'm having to explain this to you, considering how well established you are as a member of these forums. However, I don't mind teaching granny how to suck eggs....

Advertising? What advertising? Zero In forums, being owned by Zero One, don't advertise any other airsoft retailer except Zero One. Hence the forum rules on mentioning other retailers.

Classifieds sales are nothing to do with Zero One. They are independent of the company. They don't get a cut of whatever you make on your sales.

However, yes, I agree, it is irritating to have to constantly refresh your browser, or wait to get access to the forums. But it's a free forum, and Zero One are under no obligation to provide it. That said, it is a valuable resource to the UK (and wider) airsoft community for those who use it. The fact that it gets as busy as it gets is testament to that.

It doesn't look like Zero In will be flying solo any time soon though.

          Solution:

          1. Come back later (or sooner)
          2. Go elsewhere
          3. Offer to pay the hosting fee for another server.

Yeah but porn hosts might use the same server :P

I never get the error? although i don't browse as much as some i would imagine.

Can't say the forum has swayed me either way in purchasing from Z1 though.

I am quite happy as i don't pay for it.

It can be frustrating at times, but it is free!

I am a slave to browsing the classifieds for fear of missing that "deal of the century".

The only reason i buy from Zero1 is the fact they have a really helpful lady that answers the phone along with the main guy that take phone orders, I find their service helpful. Even when I have had problems.
The forum to me is an added bonus that yes in a way keep Z1 at the top of my retailer list.

That's nice to know Beef, there are definitely things I will be buying through Z1 (such as new shooters, batteries, maybe mags [please get some boxes of PMAGS in] and the like) but the tactical kit side of things isn't really relevant to my interests due to me sourcing American kit lol.

But I'll bear in mind their customer service.

I buy new guns from the retailers that give the best after service and best prices/ deals and especially warrantys . As anyone can sell them it's when they go wrong you need the best service

I appreciate it's free and people here defending it, but I can't help but feel if (warning:exaggeration) google had a "server too busy"' message these people would also complain and wouldn't mention that it's a free service?

It's all on the scale of things really. As ZI expands then really it needs to expand capacity or users will go elsewhere.

Use of this forum doesn't sway me to use Z1; in fact I will admit I've never bought from them, but only because my local shop is similarly priced, if not cheaper on some items and I don't have to pay for delivery or wait :P

It's people like yourself who irritate me, they provide a FREE service for airsofters and help with our community, I would have never spoken to so many fantastic people on this forums due to living in the West Sussex (not many venues) -- I've had so much helpful advice and I honestly wouldn't mind to pay for this forum. I'm pleasantly surprised they take all this criticism and do not remove the forum completely!

Also, I don't understand what can make you justify what you're saying? You won't buy from them due to a FREE service they provide? The service they provide for their actual store is second to none, helpful advice and speedy delivery.
yes of course it irritates everybody, it isn't just you! Sometimes you just have to MAN UP and live without it for a few minutes.
If at first you don't succeed, destroy all evidence you tried.

                              Re: Server too busy

I assume mods are watching this thread, so perhaps a suggestion.

Why not set up a donation drive/system? Another (non airsoft) forum I frequent has a whole donation section and occasionally has donation drives to generate funds for the server, which is otherwise paid for out of the pocket of the site owner. Perhaps if enough people were to donate/set up regular donations it would be more viable to move to a different host/rent a dedicated server?

Just a suggestion, I'm content with it being free and having some bugs but if it was possible to upgrade the service through public donation I'd be game.
