Re: Clasifieds Spam
Well, yeah, James...
The two best examples I've seen recently is people selling the Kart M14 JAE-100 as either a TM (complete gun) or having TM internals. On the latter, I made a post, even after the seller had said "prov. sold" stating that it was Kart's way of being sneaky, but then the OP replied stating that this was on hold until things were confirmed.
That's fine...
Personally, I think, as James has said, that topics should be left open as there are very often times when publically viewable questions should be asked, and responded to.
If this is seen too much and considered bumping, then I'll respond by saying that when a moderator checks that thread, and sees the reply to the question answered, then the two posts (Q&A) could be merged, to make things cleaner and to reduce the number of times a thread is bumped (which is also one of my pet-hates, unless valid ie substantial price drop).
LBA - In that situation re: 552 Eotech, I think because of the price, I'd have also made a post in the thread, but of course the PM option is always there. At the end of the day, that could've been a very nice deal had, but you shot them down! Hehe.

Lol that's true, maybe have a sticky on the classifieds?
If people read stickies, they wouldn't be spamming sales threads anyway, and despite this reminder, I've lost count of just how much classified spam I've removed today alone...
Hopefully bumping this will help, but I'm not holding my breath

Re: Clasifieds Spam
Can I also just point out something...
There's no need to post "wrong section" or "please read the rules" or "you need to use the template" in the thread... If you want to let that person know, PM them. If not, use the report function, like I do (for more than 5 threads in an hour, I'm a bastard...)

Yeah I PM'ed him telling him about it, I would want someone to do it to me in the same situation and it's nice to help out

Re: Clasifieds Spam
I'm new to the forum, but I've been around on t'internet for a while now on various forums with various ideas for their classifieds. One forum in particular would see new Classifieds topics go into the moderation queue to be approved, which worked quite well. That said, it was a huge forum with many many staff on hand, not sure what the staffing situation here is like.
One thing I noticed about the rules is that thread bumps saying "Pics?" isn't allowed, which seems... odd. Personally, I like to see pictures of potential purchases, as I'm sure many other people do, so perhaps the solution would be to change the classified rules to state that the post must contain pictures or be deleted?

That would be as the OP says either pics: soon or pics: no
in which case, if they say soon, just wait, if they bump and still dont have the pics.. you can report the post and the thread should be deleted.
If they say no... it means no.
If you need pics and it says soon, then PM the thread opener and talk via pm to stop bumping/spamming the thread

Re: Clasifieds Spam
Actually the biggest culprit for that, is users who put
Pictures
: by Request /If Needed.
I even posted in this section about it, but ultimately didn't seem to make much difference.

Lee sums it up perfectly
Having a rule that pics must be posted has been discussed before, but it would seem some people simply don't have cameras (apparently)

Re: Clasifieds Spam
Well that rule is bull as I hady put pics up with post but can email them from my I phone
and people should just ask via pm if pics are available at any time if interested
If someone says will send them and you give the email address and still nothing bu the next thread bump
Reply on the thread your intrest is removed as time wasting and lack of comms

Have to disagree there - my daughters £10 phone from Asda has a camera on it and came with a cable in the box to plug it into the pc.
If not its pretty easy to google an image and say so and a lot of the stuff on here has been purchased from here so just go and get the original pic from the thread.
As for "pics" or "pm sent" being spam I think that is crap personally. If the OP has a million things for sale in the thread then maybe state what the pm is regarding - but when they are only selling ONE thing then "pm sent" is pretty bloody obvious.

Re: Clasifieds Spam
1. The camera comment was sarcasm
2. Picture information should already be in the Template so asking for it on post should not be necessary (if it isn't it is a reportable post)
3. Posting PM is permitted if it is accompanied buy the reason IE PM'd with Offer, with Question etc (except for PM' for pics ) As this allows other interested users to see the progression of the sale.

Hence my 'apparently' but only yesterday I closed a thread because there was no mention of pics, so I PM'd the OP and he said he didn't post any info about pics as he doesn't have a camera, so...

Personally, I'd like to see "PM'd" banned in all it's form from sales threads as I don't see the point of it. I get e-mails to say I have a PM and there's an unread message indicator in the top right corner of the forum screen. I'm able to work out from that I have a PM
