Dont forget that the SOLD bump moves it it the top.
I've had days where I've clicked on the TOP 5 open posts and scrolled through all the picts and read the details and all the way to the bottom to find a post that says SOLD.
Its probably 25% of the users not closing sales threads but sometime it seems like 100% and as the OP states it can get on your nerves

Re: Sales graveyard. Mark as sold?
Look, the only way to tell that it isn't closed/sold before you click on it is the tiny symbol to the left hand side with a tiny padlock on it... A lot of people don't know what those symbols even mean (they are hardly written in the rules).
All the OP is saying is that it's annoying searching through threads and clicking on so many just to find they are already closed. He is saying that surely there is a better way, such as moving them to a "sales graveyard" (which would be helpful even as an appraisal/valuation system) or just to delete them as, being sold items, they have no purpose anymore.
If you fail to see that simple point he, I and others are making then I fear that you're either missing the point entirely, or playing devil's advocate.

So you're saying people can't understand what a locked padlock means? In which case, oh dear! I'd have hoped some things don't need to be written into any rules when they're pretty damn obvious!
If most of the people don't close their own threads (as Cannonfodder rightly points out) then do you think having them move their own threads is going to work?
And I've already stated why sales threads aren't deleted. If you think they have no further purpose then clearly you don't see the bigger picture, and I hope you're never get someone trying to scam you

No, a lot of people don't even realise there is a locked padlock there, or even know what those icons all stand for, obviously we can infer from a locked padlock that the thread is locked, but this is not as obvious a system as the OP is asking for.
Well they are never deleted, all threads are kept indefinitely by the mods, so you can ask one of them to retrieve it for you.
We are talking about the threads that are closed as well as those which are sold without being closed.
This has just become a circular arguement, you can stick up for the current system, but you must admit that the proposed changes make more sense, would be easier and make the threads a little more tidy.

Re: Sales graveyard. Mark as sold?
But you're still relying on the user doing it, and the majority don't even close their own threads, so the impact would be minimal
A better way of doing it might be to change the 4 week period to say 10 days

Re: Sales graveyard. Mark as sold?
Is there a way of changing that obviously hard to understand padlock symbol to say a big red cross?
I fail to see how hard it is to understand the issues really, it's a pretty basic system already and if some fail to understand this then an Internet forum is not the place to be in in all honesty!
It's not like you are standing on your head trying to read semaphore whilst eating porridge facing the wrong way!
section 24 of the 1968 Act
Supplying imitation firearms to minors
1)It is an offence for a person under the age of eighteen to purchase an imitation firearm
2)It is an offence to sell an imitation firearm to a person under the age of eighteen.

Re: Sales graveyard. Mark as sold?
@ wintergraves
I think most of us know what the padlock means.
In a sales thread it means sold/withdrawn/swapped.
The complaint is about OPEN threads WITHOUT a padlock that when you open them say sold in the last post
The OP is just moaning that some sellers dont bother closing thier threads after they have sold their item

The only problem is sellers that just dont give a damn.
I offered to buy an item/requested paypal details and asked some general questions about an item half an hour after the thread had been bumped up. I recived an answer regarding the questions, but was not supplied the paypal details.
4 days later I pmed the guy again only to then be told that he had already sold the item, and apparently he had sold it the day before he bumped the item!
You just cant reason with gnobs.
As its a free sales section, your going to get those that extract the urine, its just unfair on the genuine people that abide by the rules, but as its free, you cant realy complain.

Totally disagree with this, mate. The majority of traders on this forum do there very best to be considerate towards other buyers. As a seller i do my very best to keep people in the loop as to the status of the item/items i'm selling.

Ok, i can understand your frustration at this, but this was one trader, not all traders.
