As Richardy has said, its the same principle, just tweaked for a defining appearance.
The trick with crye's multicam design is in that it uses our flaws in perception of colour to its advantage, by making the brain "fill in the blanks" hence, blending into the background, due to the varying different colours in the pattern.
Changing the shapes in the design, shouldnt have an effect on its efficiancy, adding more of one specific colour, would help in enviroments with that colour dominance.

That's why digital and multicam look 'wrong' until they are out in the feild. It's not a case of just being matching colour, more making the eye glance over and miss the shape.
