Does your gear let you down?

Just thought id raise this issue as ive been struggling lately to carry all my gear through a 2 hour fast paced wooland game.

So here i am, behind enemy lines, shotgun laid beside me and sniper rifle gripped tightly in my palms. I see a pause in fire which gives me a chance to run to the next mound. I hook my shotgun over my back, begin to run, the shotgun falls off and is left in the open where i cannot grab it without being slotted. I then decide to fire a few shots off with the sniper rifle but only to realise my mag isnt wound on. I wind the mag on and fire again, every shot fires about 4 metres wide of the target, its very windy. When the wind settles i fire another few shots only to realise my mag is jammed. I spend about 5 minutes getting into my spanking new assault vest that claims it has easy mag access to reach for a fresh mag...

I finally get myself together only to realise my mate has shot the target carrying only 1 rifle, 1 dpm jacket and 1 high cap mag . *Anger*


That was an example of a BAD airsoft game. but what my concern is. Do we actually need all this equipment when a jacket with 4 pockets does the same job? or your old gas pistol that has never let you down over a shotgun anyday? I have a Camel hydration pack that holds 3 litres of water when it would be far more practical to carry a bottle of water in my pocket.

So just wondering what your views are on your airsoft gear and what you go for; LOOKS or DURABILITY

I go for both, I dont carry anything onto the airsoft field that I wont use. It may look like I carry a shed load of kit but it all has its uses.

I also try my gear on at home to figure out what works & what doesnt. This includes pouch location, how easy it is to draw a pistol, is my movement impeded etc, etc.

If you buy something, dont wait until you need to use it to find out it doesnt work or that is a pointless gimmick.

running through a bush with a vsr 10 on your back when the sling gets caught on a tree and sends you flying while every one else carrys on lol

Gotta say ive found this to be the case a few times-I actually started to wear almost the bear minimum of tac. gear. Instead of using a heap of vests etc I either just use my leg rig or indeed take a few pouches off my LC2.

I always seem to find when i mound the gear on - i never use it. The minute i leave it all behind is when i need.

Last week was playing and i decided to dump the water bladder - 2 hours later i was absolutely gasping for a drink - thankfully i had my tactical 'Wrigleys Extra' in my pocket - helps keep the thirst off, and gives fresh breath for those up close and personal moments :P

if i cant carry it in leg pouches i dont need it, can you reaaly not last a game without a drink? and if you do need one just leave a bottle in the safe zone, thats what its theyre for.

Considering the games at GZ last the entire day, no not really, its always advisable to take a drink out on the field with you unless you plan on going back to the car park every hour or so. Different sites, different game you see
As for gear, I generally only carry what I or the team may need. Pretty much only use real deal kit so I know it's going to last

I tend to agree, while packing nam gear the webbing and waterbottles get a bit warm after a while (specially with the flak jacket) so often Im just down to the bandolier and the rifle and leave my webbing/claymorebag/ruck where I can come back to it for spare ammo/water in a hurry.

When your running about an 80 acre site in full gear, and its roasting (twas a sunny day), and ya don't know when the games runs too, its adviseable to take water

i go for looks AND durability - i went for multicam for the looks - and bought real world kit as i know it is strong and will last for years

as far as kit failing - yes - many times my guns have failed - thankfully i normally have at least 2 with me ( and pistol when i get new mags ) and some of my team mates allways have 2 or 3 as backup

i carry everything i need which is quite a bit - keep my plate carrier on because i carry 8 midcaps - and 2 500rnd hi caps in a side pouch - my 3 spare mini batteries (in case one runs out, one has lost charge etc), alternate sight - eg red dot and acog

and of course lots of pyro - will soon have a hydration bladder although i normally dont drink much during the day anyway but want it for completness of kit

Agreed, when youre packing a plate carrier I dont notice a lot of the weight and its pretty functional.

I like the nam kit for the general comfort and manouveribility though, its much lighter than a lot of modern stuff.

yea i find modern gear such as plate carriers and other modular vest really easy and light even with tons of equiptment in - because of how it is worn on the body weight is distrubuted evenly and is quite low profile

where as webbing/slings are bulky and weigh down the shoulders

and my sling cannot get caught unless im crawling - use a bungee that goes through both shoulder pieces so my m4 hands at my chest - RECOMMENDED

Oh, I thought kit and guns were supposed to let you down when you most need them!

Slings, gearboxes, batteries, unlightable pyro. It's a weekly thing for me really!

oh yes im sure everybody has had the unlightable pyro problems

when your guns is on the floor 20m away so you can run better and you stike the pyro and...nothing - then your just stood in the open with no weapon and no cover
