No one mentioned having it on a weapon as that would be plain stupid.

It's the 'porobability' bit that's the concern, since 'probably' and 'definetely' are not the same thing. If it goes wrong I guarantee the bayonet is going to cause you more pain than the BBs, and the only way it's definetely not going to do any harm is if it's left at home.

Yes, that is until you explain that you have a legal defense for the guns and then he points out that you have absolutely NO legal defense for the knife and that it's posession as a weapon with a fixed blade of over 3 inches currently comes with a mandatory 5 year sentence.

Why would you risk that just to look the part? ESPECIALLY is you're never going to actually take it out?

Slightly off topic, appologies for that.

        One question.

Now I havn't been skimishing for long, since Nov 2007. In all that time I have never seen anyone get violent on a site. I have seen people get angry especially when they hurt themselves but never violent. Has anyone witnessed anyone get violent?

In my opinion skirmishers are very well behaved individuals. Well up North anyway...:D

Out of curiosity, where was the bayonet bought from, if it was E-B*y, then i doubt that its been properly releasd by the MOD, ie surplus, and the odds of that happening are very rarely going to happen, usually after a weapon is de-commisioned from use. therfore id have to assume the bayonet was taken without consent, so still rightfully belongs to the MOD. so to answer the original question, id go out on a limb and say yes, it is illegal, but the MOD usually only prosecute the seller not the buyer, who is usualy a civvie and knows no better.

hope this makes it clearer than an offensive weapons debate.

Yeah I have. Back when I first got into airsoft, playing CQB. A guy ran into a tiny room (like broom cupboard sized) where three of us were hidding and gave two of us a burst in the chest point blank, whilst the third person just stood on watching dumbfounded. He then noticed the third person, swung round and gave them a burst in the chest point blank too. God know what he was seeing in his head but it wasn't a game.

When I pointed this out to a marshal he came at me fist raised and had the marshal had to jump between us.

It is very easy to buy decommissioned SA80 bayonets. Just slap it into Google and you'll find lots of militaria sites selling them legally. You can not however buy them from Ebay, because all bladed weapons have been blocked for UK buyers for about the last 2 years (people outside the UK can still trade in edged weapons on Ebay).

That has to be quite rare...TBH if I was that marshal he would have been shown the gate.

Re: SA80 Bayonet and the Law?

i carry a victronox swiss army lockable. with my gear , the fact is that could stilll be used as a weapon but i use it to cut cable ties ect , it has many uses and ive fixed jams in the field with it. i coudnt go without it and my multi allen key set in my utility pouch
the blade is over 3 inches but i am using it for a utility so therefore i took it as excempt same with hunters and outdoorsmen.

I've seen fistycuffs twice and pushing and shoving several times. I've also been at a site where someone did pull a real knife on someone (although I didn't witness it). Needless to say, they were banned from the site for life, but it proves it can happen, so I say they have no place on site. Reinactment yes, airsoft no.

Have to admit that even though I was in favour...That seems a good case to change my mind.!

Also even though I was in favour I do not advocate violence in any shape or form when skirmishing. Well anytime really.

Airsoft is a hobby using toy guns, which you should have defence for anyway, if a police officer drags you over, he will be more interested in that very illegal knife your carrying, and he wont take im going into the forest as an excuse.
                        Very sound post.

I'm a frontline officer and to be honest I would be happy to arrest the Yorkshire officer myself, colleague or not. The man is an idiot, a dangerous one at that.

Murta: no exemption or defence I'm afraid. Get yourself a non-locking swiss knife under 3" long. They can be just as sharp as any other knife and will cut as many cable ties as you want. I'm not trying to sound authoritive here, just trying to save you an awful lot of aggravation. You mention 'hunting' as a defence but you're not hunting with it. You also mention 'outdoorsman' but driving to/from a skirmish field and using it for fixing jams is not really going to satisfy the CPS.

Bottom line is that there really is very few REAL defences for carrying a locking knife or one over 3". Don't forget that you are arrestable for carrying, period, so even if you do have a defence you may still get arrested and not disposed of until you have been interviewed and a decision made by the CPS which will do you at least 4 hours from time of arrest.

It's a ball-ache really. I'm not telling anyone what to do, just consider your options first. I'm not saying that anyone here is out to hurt people and as with most of these type of offences, most people claim ignorance bit again that's not a defence either unfortunately.

Re: SA80 Bayonet and the Law?

I'm uneasy thinking there's any blades on the field. If people need a knife, keep it in the safe zone, out of potential harms way. Thats just my opinion.

As unlikely as it might sound, whilst trying to safely using a utility knife in the field, somebody might bump into you out of the blue.

i have a bayonet on my ics l85. however i only ever fit it when it is hung on my wall at home, for display.

i have a soft rubber bayonet that i use for skirmishing. and a simple tap on the shoulder marks the player as "stabbed to death"
