New Infantry Automatic Rifle - How do we get it in airsoft?
10 November, 2011, 22:34
A little while ago I settled on getting a support weapon. However, being not particularly fit and generally not liking heavy guns I didn't want to get a M249 or a M60, let alone any of the numerous others. Recently though I had a thought about a rifle I had seen on furture weapons/weaponology, the M27 IAR. Its the US armed forces replacement for the M249 and is based on the H&K 416.
My question is, what parts do we need to do this conversion? From first impressions I'm thinking longer barrel and a longer RIS but what parts would be appropriate.
Discuss.

bigger/heavier barrel on a 416, change the stock thats really it as fair as externals go the real difference between the m27 iar and an m249 and and m4 is the bolt position while in semi auto and full auto but they doesnt matter in airsoft

also some internals like high speed motor and high speed gear set will also give you a higher rate of fire as the m27 iar had a higher rate then an m4

Re: New Infantry Automatic Rifle - How do we get it in airsoft?
It's only going to be used in the Marine Corps, so if you're planning on a Army/Navy/Airforce/Coastie loadout, it wouldn't work.
But basically if you wanted to build one for airsoft, you'd need a HK416 and then somehow get a longer 416 ris system (look around, you should be able to find some for around 200-400 bucks). And then a 16 inch barrel. If you wanted to be absolutely correct, you'd need to get the correct gasblock (or mock up one the best you can) and tack a bayonet lug on it.
As far as I know, they're being issued with ACOG scopes, Harris style bi-pods, Peq boxes?? (I think Peq-15/16), and a vertical grip.
Hope this helped.
EDIT: Oh and they're being issued with standard magazines at the moment, so even though you could use a box-mag, it wouldn't be correct. :p

Tango is right it's only the USMC switching over.
The US Army have had a long, rather corrupt affair, with colt for decades. Doubt you'll see them move from a US based manufacturer to European one, would cause a sh!t storm stateside too....The Marines seem more concerned with bringing the hate to worry about silly things like that!

Ares M60s weigh near to nothing... If I can use one without a sling for a whole day I think you should be able to.....

Err, the army use the M249 extensively, which is designed and manufactured in Belgium. They also use Italian pistols, Sweedish anti tank missiles, Canadian IAVs etc. There's plenty of non US stuff in use with the army/airforce etc. As for the replacement of the M249 with the M27, it's worth remembering that we went the opposite way, suplimenting a heavy barreld LSW with a box mag toting SAW for propper infantry support.

Fair point, but with the M27 at least I can use M4 mags (or pmags in my case) rather than "having" to buy often expensive box mags (even though they are massive for the m60).

It was this and BF3 that got me thinking about it as an alternative. Unfortunately I'm pretty sure that isn't the final H&K one as it lacks alot of the distinctive features of the 416 series rifles, probably just a concept demonstration during bidding.
And it appears its SRC to the rescue as they do a 16" 416 that seems close enough, just needs a HK416 crane stock rather than the usual M4 carbine stock and it should be close enough, plus it isn't that much different in cost to an A&K M249.

Look round for one of the JG 417 style stocks. It's not perfect, but it's pretty close. If you want it to be spot on, they can be modded with some work. I bought one with the intention of modding it, but I've left it standard on my 416 and it looks OK.

Isn't the m27 what you get when you first play support in BF3?

But as support weapons go, aren't people just going to look at it and say you have put a ris and different stock on a 416, or isn't that a bit long for a m4! I suspect it is just going to be like the diemarco, ie, at a glance you can't really tell!

Re: New Infantry Automatic Rifle - How do we get it in airsoft?
If you want to be a pretend support weapon player then go ahead but as others have said it just looks like a 416. Why not just fit a box mag to any gun and call yourself a support gunner? This style of play seems to get a fair amount of criticism/abuse on here due to the fact that you have all of the benefits of a support weapon but none of the drawbacks and as such you can play the same game you do now. For me a support weapon user like a sniper should have to adapt their game to the gun. You need to play as a team member who can do some things really well but finds other things less easy. Just man up and get a M249 with a nice wide sling to spread the load. My 15 year old just spent the afternoon running around with one and coped (ok he was knackered at the end of the day). If you want to compromise you can always run a M249 on M4 high cap flash mags to save some weight while you build some muscle!

The M9 is half Italian half American iirc.
And while the M249 was designed in Belgium part of the reason the US took it was because they can manufacture them in the US, therefore appeasing the US public. But if you read up on a few on the stateside AR15 forums (from guys who know more than anyone would ever need to) or if you read articles about colt and the US Army top brass they'll mirror the comments bro!
As for the LSW - bloody good point, completely forgot about that. Guess the only difference is that the USMC are not replacing all of the M249's with M27, they are just replacing 2k of the 10k they have so they'll still have M249's in a squad for suppresive fire. On top of that the USMC have 13 man (quite trigger happy) squads vs the normal 9 ish and if you watch the combat videos they also use shag loads of 40mm's vs our boys, while we went full hog auto rifle with a "standard" magazine, so they only be gaining by taking this more accurate, powerful and reliable rifle. IIRC we had LSW's with magazines as the main support weapon then bought M249's in quite a hurry when we hit real combat? The orginal M249s also have problems with warping and being in battles like Fallujah and Maraj have meant they are littlerally nakered.

I've never used or really seen an SRC before so dunno how good it'll be...
Someone could make a lot of money by producing a HK416 upper that went onto an M4 AEG!
