Re: 41 Royal Marine Commando, korea early war.
Korean era Marines werent as bothered at how their beret looked as current.modern marines and as said previously on 50s berets the crown was a lot bigger/floppier than current berets so doubt it could be shaped that well even if the Marine wanted to!!!!!
Granted, respect the Royal Marines and wear your beret smartly but you could never replicate/style/shape a 50s style RM beret the same way as a modern version no matter how much you shaped and soaked it.
Look at the state of some of these guys Berets from a period 50s photo.
Not wishing to create friction here guys or start an argument-Thanks.

The thing is, im wearing a smaller world war two beret, my dad also shaped it for me, being a royal marine himself. And in the era, the berets wernt as thin wool as our current, they we're thicker too!
Also im wearing the kings royal marine badge, not the queens!

That looks great, have you tryed taking the lineing out from the inside it makes it more floppy and makes it much easier to mold? :P

Re: 41 Royal Marine Commando, korea early war.
Interesting article on 41 Commando in the current issue of "Globe and Laurel" - they've decided to call it a day on their reunions. Huge shame, met a few of Frozen Chosin in my dim distant youth. Interesting men who lived in interesting times. Nice to know there are those who like to keep their memory alive. Hoofing!
Any opinions expressed by me may not be mine. I don't have opinions anymore. I have a mortgage and teenagers. I used to be a wild, party animal. Now I buy my trousers at M & S.

Re: 41 Royal Marine Commando, korea early war.
My old man is RM and i dunno if RM Stu will agree, but dad said he is happy with people wearing the Commando beret as long as they do not try and pass themselves off as RM. And say that they have not earned the right to wear it.
