  • Afghanistan, ~1984/5

The base for an Afghan War loadout, could at this point go into mot.inf or VDV, depending how much money I spend.

Gear- M88 Afghanka uniform, Canteen, grenade pouch, veshmeshock (not pictured), Czech m60 boots (stand-in until my Sapogi arrive).

Kit needed (leaning more toward motrifles atm) Ssh-68, afghan kepi/panama hat, shovel+pouch, regulation issue AKM or 74. Alternatively a sky-blue telnyashka, RD-54 webbing for the VDV look

A good start, I'm glad to see you've found some Afghanka. Using Afghanka is more of a late war look for Motor rifles, they were largely only issued it from about 87 onwards so VDV would give you more freedom date wise.

Either way a 74 would be a better choice than a M as the 74 was standard issue at the time where as the M was a second line weapon except for with certain individuals. I'd probably recommend an AKS74 over a full stocked version as then you can do VDV or MR scouts and they also became issue for all branches post afghanistan.

Web gear wise a standard set is a good place to start but these were rarely seen in Afghanistan. The Y-straps were often ditched and replaced with a chest rig of some kind, be it a chicom or a self made vest and light belt kit worn. Its also handy for airsoft as it can massively increase the number of mags you can carry.

If you feel like using your kit at a game then you might want to take a look here:

Think I'm probably gonna stick with MR, at a later date maybe get a VDV set together.

Things that have arrived in the post- a pair of Sapogi (a size smaller than my regular shoes but still enormous).

At you chaps' advice I'm prepared to ditch the AKM (for now, I'll be lusting after one forever into the future). Can't find a reasonable LCT/VFC/CYMA 74s anywhere though, unless of course you count the hideous tactical versions.

So what I'm thinking a the moment is maybe even a 6b2 or 3 vest (probably a 3) with a Chicom on top, bleached if possible into a standard khaki shade. In addition to this the web belt with the canteen and shovel still stuck on it. I'd imagine the Veshmeshock is still required though? iirc RD-54 was a VDV only web set.

KLMK suit yes, I am hunting for one as we speak.

It's the pose of "how do I cram my entire body into the mirror while taking a photo of myself". One day I'll be able to take some proper pictures. One day.

Khaki cotton 6b3s are the less common version and more 90s in production. The standard was green and they're synthetic, same with 6b2, so you'd stuggle to bleach them. There is no need for a chicom over a 6b3 since you have the pouches already (except on the rare early model) but its a good look with 6b2.

Yes Vesmeshoks were still standard issue for MR, although most of the time they'd be left in vehicles.

You can find CYMA 74's easily on the internet from other retailers than Zero One (PM me for details). I found a CYMA AK-74 on here for £140, which was a damn good deal as it was practically brand new and came with 2 mags, battery bag and a large ass battery.

They are £200 brand new in the UK. It even uses an 8mm gearbox! According to Kamarov, the CM04X range is targeted at the Russian airsoft market and are designed to be more like the real AK. The only problem with that is, it's slightly more of a pain in the arse to change the spring when you buy it (which I guarantee, you will).

Oh no I only meant to bleach the chicom itself, can't be doing with an entire vest.

Jay: yeah I've tracked down the full-stock ones but I'm looking for a side-folder model.

There's nothing left for me to say, everything looks authentic and the advice is good.

Good luck on your VDV loadout.

Thanks for the kind words. Yeah, authenticity is a nice tough for me so I always try to go for it wherever possible. Speaking of which Kamarov let me know whenever you next travel back to the motherland- I'd be very happy if you could pick me up a Lifchik for not £50 (what did you say they niormally were, like £15?). I'm gonna feel cheap running around with a repro chicom.

Not a bad looking kit mate, pretty good in fact. Less hair on your head needed, and more on your face! Hey you could recycle the head hair!! :P

I agree, shaved heads fit more with the look, which is why I started doing it. No more annoying times when there's bits poking out in the morning because you slept on it funny. :D

About the Liftchig, I doubt I can get one even if I go to Russia. They're outdated and all that exist are still in old army stocks. The suppliers I go to have primarily new stock, and the Liftchigs aren't one of them. I don't know exactly where to get one unless I get lucky at a market.
