Re: Feasability of a 350fps DMR?

I used to run my old S&S M1 Garand at 280fps on a .25, but thanks to uprated barrel, hop and airseal it would easily outrange and out-shoot most stock snipers at my site, FPS ain't everything

Re: Feasability of a 350fps DMR?

It is entirely possible, even on a gun running 320fps or even 280fps.

Back before the days of clone guns and things that came out of the box with 350 fps back when I started you had people doing all sorts of things to run a gun under 328fps (site limits back then) and still get a bit extra range. I am sure many people could point out one or two rifles or carbines that would be great to start with based on design.

Oh and while you are at it read up on the DM role: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Designated_marksman

It is amazing how many people assume it is a battle rifle and a scope, it is a bit more than that. Then again it is a lot easier to do a DM setup in airsoft than a true sniper one (people still thinking a sniper just means a scoped rifle and a ghillie suit).

Re: Feasability of a 350fps DMR?

I'm currently building a rifle with very similar specs as the one you’re looking to build. For you barrel you really don't want to cheap out. Even a wider barrel with a more consistent bore (a prommy 6.05) will give far better results than a cheaper 6.03 barrel. It's all down to constancy in your air seals, anyone who builds high end snipers knows that consistency wins over fps any day hands down.

Reducing wobble in your gun is essential, using things such as the HS5 barrel lock down kit will help give more consistent shots. Your bb's play a massive role as well, making sure you use only high quality beebs will really show in the results. Your hop/rubber combo is really down to trial and error though, right now I’m running a madbull ultimate hop unit with a SHS clear rubber and it's quite impressive. Without a doubt you are going to want to r-hop it or in failing that try and grab a firefly bucking. Shimming of your barrel, hop arm, gearbox and mag will all reduce vibrations and inconsistencies that can throw off your shots.

Already paid for the base and awaiting its delivery, an M14 EBR, unsure on the brand but I'm quite prepared to have it gutted and completely refitted, even if parts need to be custom made to get it working sweet.

And cheers for the link, I also thought the role of a DM to be that of target identification/prioritising and maybe occasionally some short range recon from the patrol.

Really excited to get this project rolling. :D

It can help in airsoft but often it is best to just to stick with a group and when they point out the guy at range going to flank or move up while his team advances you give him a reason to keep his head down etc.

It can be very effective if done properly, kind of a long range support weapon slinging less ammo at a time :p.
