p90 most cost effective compact cqb?
17 February, 2010, 15:34
I'm in need of a nice compact cqb weapon that won't break the bank. I've been looking at p90's as I've always fancied one and they are very compact. I've seen a lot of reviews on the KS p90 and it seems to be a good buy. My only other thought would be a sig552
What's your thoughts on this?
Btw sorry if the post is screwey, typing on my blackberry at the play centre lol

P90? TM, no point looking any further. I've just finished with the gearbox of my new one. All I did was clean and reshim it, and it runs a FAMAS speed, 290fps and smooth and quiet as anything you want. The externals are lovely and a brilliant hopup design to boot. As far as cost effective goes...you're there.

I was thinking if it had to be a g36c I would choose the JG sig 552, as it's the same inside but in a less common body.
I'm also looking at the ICS sig 552.

Re: p90 most cost effective compact cqb?
When the OP is clearly after something very suited to CQB the G36 is a rather strange choice!
P90 is a great weapon, tiny if you don't silence it! You'll also have some nice range for down corridors etc! Only downside is the rather fiddly mag changes due to the way they go in, and the size of the mags. Plus unless you want jams galore, you'll need to splash out on some decent midcaps. The P90 is also a dream to work on, as the gearbox just slides out! Looking about £190 new for a TM, but I'd check the Classic Army Sportline one for £130!
The other one to think about is the MP5 with sliding stock, which is a comparable size. On the plus side, much easier to change & get at mags. You can pick up one for under £100 second hand.
Only thing I would say is borrow a P90 for a game first. I find the grip ridiculously comfortable (as I like the hands close) but some not so keen on it!

Viper do a P90 vest too...One of my team mates has one.
I am warming towards them too, after seeing him with his. I have CA MP5K, brilliant little gun.
Don't think I would go for a G36 for CQB myself. Far too many choices...

Not always true, you might have a second P90 in the other hand :D Seriously do-able too, as the weight is at the back and they weight very little over all!!

Re: p90 most cost effective compact cqb?
g36c is very similar length to the MP5s the sas use(d) for CQB. If that length is good enough for them I wouldn't rule them out. decent mag pouches are hard to find however. I've had zero problems with my TM one so can recommend them.
I would see which of the SMG's and Small assault rifles which you find most comfortable. Find a decent manufacturer for it then go for that.
If you find the P90 comfortable you can't go to wrong with them really, as others have stated. never seem to have problems...except the hi cap mags

Re: p90 most cost effective compact cqb?
Having owned both TM P90 & TM 552 i would recommend the P90, purely because when you go round a corner there is like 2-3inches of rifle forward of your front hand so you less likely to catch it of door/window frames, its really suited to the CQB enviroment, if you get a chance to duel wield just once do it mag changing two is hard but so worth it.
Plus the range you can get out of them is awesome for how compact it is, as others have said easy hop unit, easily removed gearbox.
The 552 was just not as nice for the CQB, if you wanted it as small as possible you folded the stock thus stoppin you from shouldering it properly, but again the range that the TM one had was way more than enough at any CQB site even at stock FPS. The clippable mags were useful tho but it was real-cap or winding 200rd ones, P90 you can get the lovely 150rd mid caps.
Just because I don't post often doesn't mean I am not playing Airsoft

Re: p90 most cost effective compact cqb?
What about an F2000? There's a new one on the way out (G&G?) which looks nice.
Or, L85 AFV.
Or, AKS-74U. With the stock folded it's almost exactly the same length as an MP5 with the sliding stock in. Mine is 30cm shorter than my fixed stock MP5 SD2, with the AKs stock folded, and still 4cm shorter with the stock unfolded.

How about a MP5K? Mags easier to source, easier to change, easier to carry
