Filling in trades with spray paint !

Hi guys,

I'm no expert at the spray painting of airsoft guns etc. but i was wondering if anyone has the same irritation of when spray painting over a gun and then accidentilly filling in the trademarks with the spray paint and making them a struggle to see?

just seeing if anyone has any kind of solution to this prombem?

scrape the paint out with a craft knife.

i deliberatly filled in my trades as i didnt like them

Yep easy one this. Obviously you are talking about trades that are engraved. If so rub plasticine into the the trades. Voila covered. You can also use tippexeither way it is easy to clean out after completion

tippex sounds good - but what's another easy way to bring out trades that have faded? i say this because i know there's loads of methods that include special stuff that i can't possibly find anywhere lol.

i'm thinking of spraying my ksc glock slide. it's full metal, but has loads of huge scrapes on it now. what's the best way of doing it and will it look good sprayed?

and if i do accidently mess up the trades (i've heard rubbing a wax crayon into them does the best job of masking them during spraying) how can i bring them back out once they're gone?

you can mask with vaseline or even marmite...

This. Marmite is actually used quite a lot to achieve a chipped paint look on model tanks. Its actually pretty awesome. Doesnt smell of marmite for long after either.

vaseline should be easiest seeing as it will wash out and not smell much although imo marmite is heavenly .. or some pva glue that will just peel right out.

ok if it is metal then your ok get some solvent like turps whight spritis etc and strip it off use q-tips if it is plastic get a craft knife then pray you dont balls up and scrap it off

Jag, just a question...

Have you found the milliput has started to discolour yet? I do a fair bit of sculpting and ive found even the grease in your fingers can start to cause the White Miliput to go brown.

Not yet, only been on there a few weeks if that. Being on the trades, it's pretty much a non contact area so should be ok I guess!

True. Its a tan gun anyway, brown trades might actually look quite good.

Flanker Tanker's method is probably the best way to do the trades but i was wondering if anyone knows if the paint cleaner will take off any paint off the receiver, for example, if you've custom spray painted it?
