Adriatic Airsoft Trip- updated 01/11/2010
28 June, 2010, 14:43
As Im sure many of you know, after Simon posted a link to the Airsoft Adriatic website, and the positive reaction that came from many of the forum users, I've contacted the company that run the site with the view of organising some sort of trip for UK airsofters to the site, based off the Adriatic coast on the island Mrcara.
Heres a link in this case anyone missed it-
http://www.airsoft-gelaende.eu/adriatic-airsoft
Now, before I can go any further with this, I need to know who would be interested in this event, and what they would want out of it. Would people want a single day or a whole week? Hardcore Mil-sim or sunday skirmish rules? I will organise (hopefully), whatever the community want for this trip, so talk to me if you want this to happen.
Now, keep in mind, this is not going to be dirt cheap, but it will also not be horrendously expensive. In inital emails, Ive been recommended their week deal which contains 2 or 3 days of causing chaos on the airsoft field, and a further 2 or 3 days relaxing and taking part in other activities, although im not sure what else will be involved. IVe been told that the more people I get on board, the cheaper it will be per head, but for this deal the initial quote was between 300 and 400 Euros, including accomodation and two meals a day. However, this isn't set in stone and nearly certainly will change, depending on all the variables in play.
In terms of dates, I was thinking of probably Early July 2011. This means not only plenty of time for me (and anyone who wants to help, may I add
) to organise the thing, but it also give anyone who wants to attend plenty of time to plan and save- set aside £10 a week from now until then, no problems
Any questions please throw them up, I will do my best to answer them.
UPDATE
Right, been talking more and more with the blokes who run this place, and we seem to be in agreement that the hight of summer is a bad time for this event to take place. In July/August Croatia can easily reach 40C in the shade, so we have decided that either early easter, or early autumn- probably looking at the end of March, or the beginning of september, as this will keep the price of flights and such cheaper as it won't conflict with school holidays. So, what would be peoples preferences?
Also, at the moment, the current plan seems to be for coaches, anyone got any better ideas considering the facts?
UPDATE
Ok everyone, after further updates from the site in Crotia, we are now looking at a series of 12 hour Milsim games over a few days. Sound good? The nature and style of these I will discuss with the site at a later date. We are also looking at one of the first two weeks of SEPTEMBER as proposed dates. I also need to finalize how transport takes place, as it occurs to me that it may be impracticle to do this via coach. Would people be prepared to organise one bulk shipment of kit to the site so we don't have to worry about taking kit on the day? Or are people not willing to part with their guns. Once again, if people also have proposed ideas I am also eager to hear them.
Also note, if this goes ahead I WILL NOT be handling any money or gear at any point aside from my own, although I will try and sort every detail out, the companies in question (eg, courier, airline, coach company) Will be who you pay once all is organised.

One question, was that estimate of cost including or excluding flight and transfers?

Re: Adriatic Airsoft Trip
That was excluding transfers, we havent discussed much in detail yet as I need to find what people want before we can do details. The two options on the table to us are either coach hire- eg if there were 100 people going (easy number), rent 3 coaches, tunnel it, then drive to Croatia- or flight- Im sure easy jet have a low cost flight to somewhere in country, but I dont know the exact details about RIFs on a plane. Anyone with experience interested in sharing details?

Re: Adriatic Airsoft Trip
I know Ryan Air do flights to Zadar in Croatia from Stanstead. EasyJet fly from Stanstead & Gatwick to Split and Dubrovnik. Handy for me, I can walk to Gatwick Airport in a matter of minutes :p
I'm definitely interested. You want 2 days worth of skirmishing at least, so perhaps a 5 day trip encompassing a weekend?
As for RIFs, it's probably best to contact the airlines and airports authority. Also ask the Adriatic Island guys about local laws, as I presume they'll know about getting RIFs in and out of Croatia.

Re: Adriatic Airsoft Trip
Ryan Air is quite possibly the cheapest airline available. I do London Stansted-Italy 2-3 times a year and if you book a month in advance it come to as low as £15-35 for a trip. The only problem is that they have a really strict "no gun" policy, which includes toy guns, even in the checked (hold) luggage. The closest direct flight into Croatia to the Island is at Zadar Airport.
Easy Jet is the next best offer in terms of cheap flights, and they will allow toy guns on board in the checked (not carry-on) luggage. They are slightly more expensive, but they can be arguably as cheap if you book in advance. From the 30th June EasyJet will start doing flights from London Luton to Rijeka airport in Croatia, though we would require a fair bit of travel to get from Rijeka to Mrcara.
Chartered coach or train journey would certainly be the most headache-free in terms of travelling with RIFs and such. They rarely (if ever) do passport checks and the like when travelling on the surface through EU countries, and France and Italy allow RIFs to go through without any trouble, checks or VCRA nonsense.
They will do passport checks if travelling through Switzerland, however, but they also have no qualms about RIFs. The Croatian border control is fairly lax, and also allow RIFs. Most people simply hitch a ferry from Italy directly through Croatia to avoid passing through Slovenia, although it is short journey, I'm not sure if travelling with RIFs poses a concern.
Hope this helps a bit.

Re: Adriatic Airsoft Trip
The guys at Adritatic have told me there shouldnt be any issues on their end, as long as the normal common sense procedures are up held, but they havent given me any info about airports and the like, but I can ask.
Again, at present, the cost is very much up in the air, as It would depend entirely on variables, too many to really get an accurate picture at this time. At the moment I need to know three things
1. Are you interested? And is that interest truely serious? I know everyone would lvoe to come, but some might not be able to get time off work/uni/the missus/bumbing around, etc. I need to get a rough idea about numbers interested- things change dramatically in terms of costs if Its 50 players, or 500.
2. What sort of event do you want? Do you want some sort of themed story, or a series of easy going attack and defend style games? Do you want strict mil-sim rules, or laid back, anything goes? Obviously aswell, the ability to run different styles of event is somewhat bound to numbers
3. How long do you want to be there for? Do people want just a couple of days there, or a whole week? And if its a longer period of time, do you want to spend it all airsofting?
Say a 4 day trip, do you want to spend 4 days airsofting or 2 airsofting or 2 relaxing?
Those are the main discussion points at present, and the price will change depending on those points, and other factors. Im in frequent communications with the site owners, so I will be sending on questions and such
Of course, feel free to discuss anything else that may come to mind

Fantastic information there Bob, much appriciated. AS there WILL be guns, unless you all fancy airsoft medival style (Don't get any ideas rockdetla), Ryanair is out then, but considering we are looking at pretty much a year away, prebooking easyjet flights shouldn't be an issue, nor train tickets.

Re: Adriatic Airsoft Trip
Well tbh I think that:
At that sort of price I personally don't want a Sunday skirmish,
I would like a Thursday (?)to Monday trip, so arrive Thursday play friday Saturday and Sunday go home Monday morning,
Also again at that price id like a themed mil-sim, as 200 ( ish in the middle) euros is a bit much for a blat , so maybe
Ammo restrictions, regen restrictions etc its not like your going home in 8 hours
That was spoken in general ,
