    Also just described SYA
The way SYA run it is to either have a marshal as "team leader/commander" who stays at the teams re-gen and tells them the objectives as and when they change, that also gives the owners the flexibility to change the objectives if they find the need to tweek the game for any reason. That method is usually used for half day games.
The other way they do it is to hand out printed orders/objectives and maps on the morning, then take each team to its start point and breif them with the back story for the senario and advise the teams on how it would be best done then let people get on with it.
That leaves the milsim guys free to organise into teams and go about how they want and it lets the "open day" guys know where the action is going to be at any given time.
This method is usually used for full day games.

Having leaders and more precise objectives sounds like an awesome idea from a players point of view but from a buisiness side there could be problems as you would likely drive off the more casual player who just wants to have fun and although from my experience most players are serious in the long run it could damage your profits...
Just because you can doesn't mean you should......

Re: Anyone Want To Help With My 'Half Sim' Idea?

        Absolutely :D

I for one am fed up with driving hundreds of miles (I also live in Kent) paying through the nose to play Paintball games without the paint whilst the site owner and his friends are shooting the place up because it's their home site.

I would happily spend Half an hour to an hour after the briefing sorting out the teams and objectives as part of the in game scenario, providing the games are worth the effort.

Here are some point's and questions any site owner should bear in mind.
        • Whats the point in having a 500fps limit for snipers when theres no time in the game to setup an ambush or a nest?
        • Why have 50 players storming a barn when only 8 of you can fit in the building?
        • Why have objectives that mean opposing teams never meet?
        • Why have objectives that run two teams into each other at the start?
        • Re-gen points! what Muppet puts your re-gen behind the enemy line?
        • Use some imagination do we have to chase around a building or wood to find a manky old petrol can with bomb written on it.
        • Why do the marshals have to stand behind your hiding position in a hi-vis vest giving us away? embedded Please.
        • Why does the food have to cost a fortune and taste like three day old kebab.

Anyway. I am soon to be made redundant (Yet Again! lost the house last time) and I will probably have some spare time over the coming months. If I can help in any small way I will be only to glad to. By the way did I mention I'm a Carpenter, Plumber, Set Builder and pretty reasonable cook.

Drop me a line I'm only over the water from you.

Re: Anyone Want To Help With My 'Half Sim' Idea?

          Yeh - was a complete joke :p

I think it would be a great site, is there not a problem with numbers though.

If you want it to do well (business strategy) then it is kind of doomed, you will need to advertise etc. and people who shouldn't be there will end up coming. It is much easier to be tactical with fewer people especially friends etc. but then your not really going to make much money.

So if you could do it, it would be a very ood site indeed.

sounds like a great thing for the airsoft community but not the greatest buisness model. throw in an underground bunker, a variety of large bridges, a coupla snipers "hides" then you'll make some money

Re: Anyone Want To Help With My 'Half Sim' Idea?

Thanks for the positive response so far guys. Some good points made, and a fair few PM's too. Much appreciated.

The main "sticking point" at the moment is a suitable location. As I say, it seems impossible to rent woodland commercially through any streams I have found so far. Most site owners have contacts that are farmers or such, with land to spare.

Down the buying route, it is feasible. For around 100k! Would require a commercial mortgage, and a 25% deposit!

If anybody knows how to find land to rent, I'd gladly hear from them

Re: Anyone Want To Help With My 'Half Sim' Idea?

the site i play at runs in a half sim way anyway

in the morning after teams are decided each team is given a briefing and objectives, whether it be call in the EOD teams for bomb disposal, capture the radar dish and towers to guide the plan in for extraction, escort the land rover round the site etc etc

while everyone is free to do as they like most airsoft teams will get on their radios and coordinate together towards the objectives

the day is split into two games, morning and afternoon (lunch in the middle for food and reloading) and the afternoon game is influenced by the morning game - for example team A captured the tower so they have use of the land rover which can be allocated a gunner (normally whoever has the biggest gun)

the KEY to getting a "successful" site - is something varied and unique, perhaps a mix of indoor and outdoor combat (eg an urban building surrounded by forest)

oh and theblokewith the scar heres my interpretation on your points - this is from the experience at the only site i play at

-Whats the point in having a 500fps limit for snipers when theres no time in the game to setup an ambush or a nest?

splitting the day into 2 long sessions allows this to happen as there are a few hours worth of solid game to easily get into position

-Why have 50 players storming a barn when only 8 of you can fit in the building?

if you give more than one objective teams will split up to take the one they think they can tackle best and prevents fighting being locked to a single location

-Why have objectives that mean opposing teams never meet?
-Why have objectives that run two teams into each other at the start?
-Re-gen points! what Muppet puts your re-gen behind the enemy line?

no experience of this - objectives need to be placed more constructively

-Use some imagination do we have to chase around a building or wood to find a manky old petrol can with bomb written on it.

this point i DO agree with, some better props would benefit us all

Why do the marshals have to stand behind your hiding position in a hi-vis vest giving us away? embedded Please.

our marshals play the game too haha, or at least they walk around with a gun and camo and you only know they are marshals from their face

Why does the food have to cost a fortune and taste like three day old kebab.
                  - our food is including in the price and tasty

= i hope that this may also benefit JAGILLHAM as i find that this is how a site should be run for it to be good

Re: Anyone Want To Help With My 'Half Sim' Idea?

Unfortunatly mate no matter how amazing you make you site its irrelevant, what matters is WHO turns up! Even if you have bridges and tunnels and a 40 foot high castle and plan the perfect airsoft scenarios if the local bachelor party turn up all with 2 tone G36c's, plus a few rentals and then the usual sunday rabble of airsofters of all styles and skills (not saying any way is better than any other way mind) turn up then most of them will have whale of a time but some people will leave moaning about the various perfectly valid complaints many of you have made! (sometimes including me)

There are unfortunately only 2 realistic solutions, neither require a new site (which would invariable go back to normal after you realize you need to make money)
1: Form a fairly large team. A team of between 6 and 15 airsofters can all go to a site, without unbalancing the games and play as one unit, as tactically and skillfully as you like and all have lots of fun pawning the rabble (American vietnam film style)

2: Ask you site owner if they could arrange for "milsim days" which are for ONLY those with full (or even matching) uniforms, no 2 tones, mayb even no high caps as with UA and other rules, these will attract less, more dedicated players and dont even have to clash with regular skirmish days! Organizing that once a month seems a LOT easier than starting your own site just to try to fulfil that desire!

Re: Anyone Want To Help With My 'Half Sim' Idea?

As an idea, you could always have a painball day seperately, so you can rake the money in and get in all the people who you don't want playing at the airsoft days. That way your covering both markets. Just don't put Blue barrels around the place.

Re: Anyone Want To Help With My 'Half Sim' Idea?

You could use your time, money and new found academic skills to come up with a more viable option that doesn't mean having to rely on 'who' is going to play at your site...

...how about using your business planning to come up with some kind of airsoft framework that can apply to a number of sites whereby you can form your own site but place it in the context of a larger regional/local league as in real 'sports'. This way you could form your own team using your site as an effective 'home ground'. This would also detract from the requirement of having to play 30 min games and get bored turdless.

...also, by being a 'founding practitioner' of this new airsoft framework you will be in a good position by which to direct your business idea so that, for instance, your 'home ground' team could spend a weekend honing their own skills at your site in a more friendly environment plus prepare the site for the away team to play against you guys as the new framework will work in a new framework that means the home team defends the home ground site.

It's an idea as every other week, for example, you'll be playing 'competitive' league games and inbetween you can have less competitive games amongst your home players.

                        Ideas...

aye you could mix between the two main game types, then you'd be able to cover more of the market and also alot of new players dont want to take it too serious at first, i used to get quite irritated when other players would be shouting orders at me and lecturing me on tactical methods etc..just because im not in the TA or the army doesnt give other the right to think less of me when i was new....anyway a mix of 'fun days' and sim days sounds like a good idea, also would give new people in your area a chance to get a feel for the game and the site before deciding to go for a loadout etc..starting a site is something ive got on the backburner for now up in scotland as where i'll be living up there puts me a good 3 hours drive away from any sites! hehe i will be doing a 750 odd mile drive down for GZ_2009!
back in the game after 12 months away!
