Re: SA80's
i own the g&g which is a good gun, but alot of people at our site use the star and rate it very highly and its considerably cheaper

Re: SA80's
The budget version is the Army Armament L85A1.
£130 - £150 brand new. Under £90 second hand.
Full metal, and gets great reviews all over the internet.

Re: SA80's
As for cost ???? i'll have to see what i can get for a TM G3 SG1 and TM MP5 A4. i'll have to part with those first. I have seen WOLF'S sa80 and dont want to pay anywhere near that sort of price (but no doubt they are the mutz) anything maybe upto 200 quid ''maybe''.... Mark

Re: SA80's
Mods preferable, not essential. Lock the blow back off, and you can live with the semi auto not always working. It is a hard trigger, so single shot on full auto mode is easy enough.
A certain Scottish retailer sell them with the mod already done if you are bothered.
Think that is £160. Which then gives you some spare for a tightbore barrel and a sling
But again, for a budget weapon, the L85 takes some beating.

Re: SA80's
The G&G and AA have the same issue, and you will need to use the mods that have been mentioned to solve them:
They have a PSG1 length piston and thus more sector gear teeth. They also have the same "precocking system". I'll go into both here.
The PSG1 piston and sector gear are both 3 teeth longer than their counterparts. Basically, it means that sometims, as the piston shoots forward after being released, as there is less untoothed sector gear and so the teeth come round quicker, the first tooth can sometimes pre-engage the piston whilst it's still going forward, causing massive strain on the teeth involved.
This is fixed by taking a normal piston, and adding a 10mm spacer to the front, between the piston and piston head. You will also need a longer screw. There are guides on how to do this, use google.
Then, replace the sector gear with a normal one. Problem solved. I have done this in my AA R85, and it has run smoothly for about 4 months now.
The pre-cocking system is due to the different sector gear. Normally, AEGs on semi are setup to cut the power when the piston has just been released. This means you can use semi to take the tension off the spring, as oppose to leaving the gun midstroke, which puts strain on the teeth, as well as compressing the spring.
However, due to the extra teeth, the G&G/AA rifle cut's the power just as the piston is ABOUT to be released, thus leaving it at maximum strain/as far back as it'll go. This means that if you use semi with the objective being at release spring tension, you get the exact opposite effect, as the spring is left in maximum tension.
This is fixed by replacing the sector gear with a standard one, as mentioned above.
Also, with The AA one, remove the blowback, it's fun but it destroys the gearbox.

Re: SA80's
price no real difference in it between the star & the g&g £325-£350 the only thing i will say is ive had 2 G&G l85s the a1 & a2 but be aware you will need to spend more on it to make it reliable and the rate of fire is allot slower than the star to speed it up you will need to short stroke it and put a stronger spring in it than you would norm use however the gear box on the g&g is a peach to work on .for straight out of the box and easy spring changes it has to be the star ive still got 4 of um no probs what so ever with um they also take a any v2 piston. for the best performance put in a tm hopup bucking a tb barrel 9.6v batts & a tm 1000 motor in it ohagh it them becomes a beast and will out perform the g&g in every area.
hope this helps

Not essential no, but most people prefer it to last more than a few mags :p

Re: SA80's
The Star one.
Or buy a TM gun, which will work straight out of the box. But the don't do an SA80.
The ICS one....I don't trust ICS personally, but apparently this one's much better than the ususal ICS stuff. It has some intresting features. Have a look on google.

Re: SA80's
I haven't modded mine one, I only use it on full auto though and do as jagillham said for single shot (pull the trigger quickly basically)
As long as you don't batter it too much, it will last

Re: SA80's
Careful there Keeper old boy, STAR are know to have thier problems just as G&G are.
As for your exclamation Sgt Sniper, most airsoft kit from TM, JG, CA, etc will work straight out of the box fine, but for some reason, no one has been quite able to do the R85 just yet
G&G TR15 Raider XL, CA G36K, G&G MP5A4, Cyma Thompson, APS AKS-74U, Custom TM Uzi, DE M56, WE Nighthawk X2, Cyma Glock 18C
RD Customs MG42, The Bone Cannon And Project Balderdash.
If you aren't laughing, you're doing it wrong.
