hi everyone im not usually one to come on here and rant but i just received the local advertiser through my door and upon opening the first page theres a big bold header saying pupils warned over bb guns, to cut the whole thing short my local council are going into schools and educating students on airsoft weapons which to me sounds like the local police is going to be putting a bad spin on this sport, it then goes onto to describe airsoft guns look real and fire bright colored plastic pellets which can cause bruising or !serious injury! and if fired in someones eye can blind them

it seems to me those back street market sells are selling cheap airsoft guns again and yet again local news are making us genuine players look bad to the general public

i can agree with the eye injury part but all the rest to me seems like crap, so i can see the next generation of airsofters will be molded to anti-softers :P i like what i did there with the name lol

its just called the holderness advertiser, as i live in the holderness but this incident took place in Beverley, east yorkshire

Well, to be fair:

1) They do look real, that's why we like them
2) They do fire plastic pellets that can cause bruising and serious injury (I'd count losing a tooth as a serious injury, and I've now got a scar on my arm from being shot at a game)
3) They most certainly could blind someone

And to respond with paintball

1) Guns are now taking on more realistic looks to the point of not needing a giant bottle hanging off it

2) They fire huge balls of solid paint far faster than a bb gun that can blind, bruise and scar.

3) They can blind people too

Why is that bad news?

Children should be educated and if possible scared off buying airsoft and airguns by the rozzers so they dont get them and start shooting in the streets. Cause that then gets all of us shafted when little jimmy gets blown to bits by the ARU cause he shot the cat across the street. Mothers call for a ban to stop that happening ever again and wola! Airsoft is banned in the UK.

Not something I want to happen tbh.

its not the eduction of airsoft i have a problem with its the fact that i know the police will say airsoft is bad and give it a bad name

This is the point of the UKARA scheme. I think if the police want to outlaw our sport then paintball MUST go as well.

Get in touch with your paper and/or police and try and get out there to represent! You could turn this negative thing in to a positive thing just by explaining how they can be positive.
