I recommend using the GPMG sling. It's wider and a bit more padded than a minimi sling, and has a quick release function if you need to get down and dirty in a hurry

Cheers fizzy, how do you connect it the the actual weapon.. Not another AEG you have to buy extra sling swivels for?
It seems like such a terrible shame that innocent civilians have to get hurt in wars, otherwise combat would be such a wonderfully healthy way to rid the human race of unneeded trash.

I just used a couple of sturdy split rings you get on keyrings. Attach the split rings to the sling points and then attach the sling to the split rings

Handy little things they are, I keep some for just that sort of thing.
Also don't forget BBs, that nice M249 of yours will be useless otherwise :D

Re: What do you stick in your M249
Fracking terrible first woodland skirmish with it. The box mag jammed, but had lonex flash M4 mags as back up but the range is terrible. There is no nub in the hop up, and running it on 8.4 1100's is just stoopid.
One of the boys there lent me his 7.4 lipo, and what a transformation.

Re: What do you stick in your M249
Yeh... dude the best thing you can do with the hop is the biro mod and a tm hop rubber, transformed my m249. I am surprised your box mag jammed, I've never had any issues. Although I have stuffed the top of the bb section with a sponge to stop them escaping every where and getting into places in the mag that they shouldn't be.
8.4v batteries in it do suck, go lipo and get a mosfet - dead easy to install, you don't even have to open up the gear box.

Re: What do you stick in your M249
havent had chance to test mine yet >.< being star though i've modded my magazine to wind on a micro switch rather than working from the trigger. how do you guys figure an 8.4 1500 will fare rather than an 1100? or am i best just going for a 3300 dya recon?

Re: What do you stick in your M249
I put a classic army hop up in mine but range was still bad. It was only when I changed to an m130 spring that the range became as good as a regular AEG. Theyre very robust (mine fell of my shelf which is about head height onto a wooden tray and it hardly did anything) and easy to work on. Both of which makes m249's a good last resort gun
Get a CA 1000rd nutsack mag soooo much better than the regular box mag

Re: What do you stick in your M249
As said above, do the hop nub mod/change, i found a new hop rubber to improve things a little as well as the factory one in mine was a bit shite to say the least!
I run a 9.6v 4000mah modded to fit in the box mag along with a manual box mag activation button wired into the front grip as the microphone setting on the box mag can be a little unreliable!
I also changed to motor for another cheap Chinese one as the standard A&K ones run a little slow, but that's only if you are unhappy with the ROF. When i did this i converted to box mag to run off a single cell 3.7v 1000mah lipo instead of 4 AA batteries so it can keep up with longer bursts of fire.
If you get any feeding issues with the mag and don't want to shell out on a classic army or MAG box mag i highly recommend stripping down the A&K one and giving the plastic gears a good coat of dry PTFE lube, helps them run a lot smoother.
Lastly but most importantly, i would put in a mosfet, nothing fancy and no need for active breaking. Just a plain and simple mosfet as the trigger runs off a micro switch and they will last a lot longer with one fitted.
I would also invest in a bulk bag of bb's :D:D:D

Re: What do you stick in your M249
I picked up a second hand A&K MK1 249 out the box stock, the only change I made was swapping the hop rubber which had no "lip" at the GB end for a madbull blue and the vertical nub for an old TM, range is more than doubled!
I ran a standard 8.4v for ages and whileI don't mind the slow ROF it was a little slow, so use a 7.4v lipo now better ROF (don't want it too high!) and will outlast the 8.4v in terms of beebs out.
Seem to be lucky the box mag feeds perfectly via sound activation most folk I know have had to fix this or do without, I did cut away some of the mag interface part where it has the ledge of plastic at the bottom so it no longer jams against the box mag release when trying to insert it.

Re: What do you stick in your M249
Some m249 boxmags are known to be proper lemons, mic contacts break, bbs can jam going through the metal spring wire tubing, bbs jamming the mechanism.
On the m249 itself the alignment can be off from the magwell to the hopup unit requiring gentle engineering, however you stated it fed fine on m4 mags.

Re: What do you stick in your M249
Biro nub, and a 9.6v 3300mah sorted, and got a sling as well. Luckily I kept some boy racer seatbelt pads so they will be sprayed black and attached to a sling. Just need someone to shoot now.
